PITREAVIE athletes enjoyed both individual and team successes in the final East District Cross-Country League meeting of the season at Broxburn on Saturday.

Top individual performer was Sarah Coutts, who won the under-13 girls’ race, while the under-11 boys won their team competition.

Sarah (right, photo: Steve Adam) clocked 10 minutes 57 seconds for her race over a 2.7km course, while clubmates Jenny Gillanders and Jemma Jamieson were fifth and 15th respectively, clocking 11:26 and 11:56, securing second place for Pitreavie in the team competition.

Also competing in the under-13 race were Ailsa Barr, who was 19th in 11:59, and Lucy Telfer, 50th in 14:35.

First home for the victorious Pitreavie boys in the under-11 race over a 1.4km course was Conor Gourley, who finished fourth in 5:29, while Campbell Dowie and Ben Johnston were just four seconds behind him in sixth and seventh places. R Birrell also ran well, finishing 15th in 6:05.

In the under-11 girls, Isla Booth was 17th in 6:50 and K McNulty 19th in 6:53.

Pitreavie’s under-13 boys, racing over 2.7km, took second place in the team competition, with Lewis Blair seventh in 10:45, Lewis Dow ninth in 10:55 and Euan Johnston 18th in 11:19. Also running was Gregor McPherson, who was 35th in 12:30.

In the under-15 boys’ race, over 4.1km, Alex Johnston was eighth in 15:27, one place and five seconds ahead of James Adam. Ben Grant crossed the line in 15th in 15:55 to clinch third place for Pitreavie in the team competition. Dylan Thomson was 27th in 16:51 and L Murray 38th in 18:45.

The under-15 girls and under-17 women competed together over a 4.1km course, with Pitreavie’s top performers in this race being Emily and Zoe Nicholson who finished seventh in 16:38 and 12th in 17:05 respectively. Ciara Bowman was 28th in 18:50, Sophie Telfer 30th in 18:59, and H Dow 34th in 19:34.

In the under-17 men’s race, Tyler White completed the 5.4km course in 21:07 for 16th place, Corey Smith was 23rd in 23:34 and Andrew McNaire 26th in 24:11.

Six Pitreavie athletes represented East of Scotland in the Inter District Cross-Country Championships in Edinburgh.

Sarah Coutts and Jenny Gillanders ran in the 3km under-13 girls’ race, finishing 12th in 14:00, and 18th in 14:18 respectively.

Lewis Blair ran in the under-13 boys’ race, also over 3km, and crossed the line in 26th place in 13:55.

The other three Pitreavie runners competed in the under-15 boys’ race over 4km.

James Adam was first of the trio to make it home, finishing 25th in 17:25. Alex Johnston was 29th in 17:36 and Ben Grant 30th in 17:56.
