SCOTTISH record-breaker Lewis Blair and double champion Jack Lawrie were the star performers for Pitreavie AAC at the weekend’s National Indoor Age Group Championships at the Emirates Arena.

During the two days of competition, five Pitreavie athletes won titles, 11 returned home with medals and many more secured places in finals and recorded personal bests.

In the under-13 age group, Blair stole the show with his record-breaking run to win the 800 metres final. His time of 2:20.48 took 0.18 of a second off the indoor record, which had been unbeaten for 11 years.

Clubmates Euan Johnston, fourth in 2:25.91, and Campbell Dowie, fifth in 2:26.73, just missed out on joining him on the podium.

However, Johnston made up for that with a couple of silver medals, one in the 60m hurdles in 10.33, and the other with 4.53m in the long jump.

There was more impressive distance running from the girls, as Sarah Coutts and Jenny Gillanders made it a Pitreavie one-two in the 1500m. Coutts took gold in 5:11.24, with Gillanders picking up silver in 5:14.30.

Conor Gourley, who had just stepped up from the under-11 age group, was fourth in the boys’ 1500m final in 5:12.91, while three Pitreavie girls reached the final of the 60m hurdles – Jennifer Brydon finishing fourth in 10.67, Lynn Harvey fifth in 10.82 and Skye Marshall sixth in 10.86.

At under-15 level, there were medals for Iona Crawford, third in the 300m final in 43.75, and Alex Johnston, second in the 800m final in 2:13.93.

Others to reach finals included Emilija Morrison, who recorded a personal best of 4.09m in the long jump; Ryan Woods, who was fourth in the high jump with 1.65m; Joshua Revie, who was fourth with 9.88m in the shot putt and seventh in the 60m; and Lucy McRoberts, who broke her personal best three times in the 200m but had to settle for fourth in the final in 26.80.

In the under-17s, Taylor Roy produced a winning performance in the 60m hurdles final, claiming the gold in 8.52.

Ruth Harvey picked up a bronze in the pole vault after clearing 2.00m.

Also making it into finals were Bethany McAndrew, fourth in the 60m hurdles in 9.18; James Adam, fifth in the 800m in 2:04.11; and Leah Davie, fourth in the 1500m in 4:55.30.

In the under-20s, Jack Lawrie started his day by winning the 60m hurdles in 8.11 and then went on to win a second gold medal in the 400m in 49.71. His attempts to secure a third medal fell narrowly short when he finished fourth in the 200m in 23.09.

Anna Gordon won gold in the pole vault, clearing 3.50m, while Ben Potrykus picked up a bronze medal in the 800m with a time of 1:57.22. Kirsten Cronie, fourth in the pole vault with 2.80m, and Niamh Guest, sixth in the 60m hurdles in 9.56, also reached finals.
