AFTER being washed out last Saturday Dunfermline Knights face a highly important weekend.

On Saturday Knights entertain struggling Uddingston in the SCL Premier Division and on Sunday top Edinburgh side Grange come to McKane Park in the Scottish Cup second round.

With a record of two wins and four defeats from their six completed matches in the league Dunfermline will dearly want to kick-start their season with a win against Uddingston.

They need to string together at least three back-to-back victories to climb into a challenging position in the table.

Said the club's Tom Gibson, "It is a very important weekend for the lads.

"The Uddingston game is a must-win affair and I suppose in cup terms they don't come bigger than Grange at home.

"If we want to climb the table the Uddie game is one you have to look to win but clearly the Bothwell Castle team will be out to make life as difficult as they can for us.

"Sunday's cup-tie is another big, big game but after the recent league fixture, where we failed by only six runs to chase down 273 to win, there will be no lack of confidence in the ranks." Last Saturday's wet weather put paid to all three matches involving club sides but on Sunday the Forth Cricket Union team got in a fixture against Stenhousemuir at the Tryst.

In need of knocks to regain form, first-team batter Vasu Reddy played and scored an unbeaten 95 as the McKane Parkers totalled 171.

Stenny always struggled in their run chase and when the last wicket fell they were still 74 runs short. David Cooper and Brian Brown did the damage for Dunfermline.

Dunfermline XI 171 for 7, V Reddy 95, R Cox 22.

Stenhousemuir 97, D Cooper 3 for 19, B Brown 2 for 19.

Dunfermline Knights will host a section of the Murgitroyd Twenty20 Festival to be played on Saturday 25th June at McKane Park.

First up is a contest between West Lothian and Stirling at 11am, Dunfermline face RH Corstorphine at 2pm and the winners of each match meet in the final at 5pm.
