DUNFERMLINE Knights will have to go west this weekend as they bid to kick-start their SCL Premier League campaign and reach the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

On Saturday Knights will take on Clydesdale, at Titwood, in search of a third league win and on Sunday they will meet the winners of the much postponed cup third-round tie between Ferguslie and Kelburne. That tie was due to be played last night (Wednesday).

With two wins and five defeats from their seven league games played, Dunfermline need to go to Clydesdale and pick up all 10 points to get back into the race for a top eight finish.

With a Championship side meeting them in the Scottish Cup quarters, albeit away from home, Knights will be favourites to make the semi stages of the national competition for the fourth time in eight years.

But the club's Tom Gibson feels that greater consistency is needed to see the team pull itself up the table and progress in the cup.

He said, "Of the five games lost in the league we have got into a position to win four of these but ended up losing.

"On their day the team is good enough to beat anybody in the division but getting consistency in the batting, bowling and fielding disciplines is something which has eluded us so far this season." Gibson feels that on paper there is an outstanding opportunity to make the semis of the cup but he added, "If we do not play properly either Championship side will pose problems." Away from the national scene there has been plenty of activity for the club with the team making the final of the Caledonian section of the Murgitroyd Twenty20 competition.

On Thursday night the Knights beat Championship side Falkland by 98 runs at McKane Park after having piled on 153 in their 20 overs.

Falkland lost early wickets and struggled to score at anything like the required rate.

Knights 153 for eight, J Davidson 34, S Shariff 34, K McLaren 31; Falkland 55, V Reddy 2 for eight, S Smidt 2 for six.

On Saturday Dunfermline took part in the Murgitroyd Twenty20 Festival but the weather eventually saw play abandoned at McKane Park.

Stenhousemuir and Stirling County travelled to Fife for a round-robin competition and the Knights made the best of starts beating Stenny by 56 runs.

The second game was interrupted by the weather twice and with the rain setting in at around 5.30pm the umpires chose to abandon the event.

Knights 181 for three, W Schmidt 70, A Shazad 49 not out, G Rai 43; Stenhousemuir 125 for 5, Y Arafat four for 23.

The Knights' seconds lost by seven wickets to East League Division Four leaders Kirkbrae in Edinburgh, on Saturday.

Knights II (8pts) 216 M Beg 56, S Janahathan 51, B Wilkinson 26; Kirkbrae (20pts) 217 for 3.

On Sunday Dunfermline XI won a very tight Forth Union fixture against Livingston at McKane Park. Scott Lucas top-scored with 41 as Dunfermline made 158 in 30 overs but Livi were never out of it and fell just seven runs short.

Dunfermline XI 158 for five, S Lucas 41, S Reddy 40.

Livingston 151 for five.
