DUNFERMLINE Knights were given home advantage when the draw for the Scottish Cup semi-finals was made on Monday.

They will meet Arbroath at McKane Park on Sunday 23rd July while Watsonians and Uddingston meet in the other semi.

The club's Tom Gibson said, "It is always handy to get a home draw but it will not be an easy tie.

"Arbroath have shocked a few sides in the Premier League this season so it will be a very interesting fixture." The Knights qualified for the last four by making a club record total at Ferguslie in the quarter-finals on Sunday after beating Clydesdale in a league thriller the day before.

It was a cracking weekend for New Zealand overseas amateur Stevie Smidt who made his best league score of the season on Saturday and followed it up the next day with an unbeaten century.

At Titwood the West Fifers knew they would have to show more consistency in their overall performance to beat a team which has been in the top half of the table all season.

And they had to work really hard in the field as the hosts posted a very useful 221 in their 50 overs.

Safyaan Sharif bowled well for the visitors, taking two for 38 with his fast deliveries, and spinner Kevin McLaren captured two for 46.

The Dunfermline reply got off to a bad start and at 56 for 3 they needed a good stand to turn things around.

Enter Sharif. Fresh from his Scotland success, this time with the bat, he and Smidt put together a patient stand of 116 for the fourth wicket.

Smidt made 80 and Sharif 74 and this put the Knights on course for victory but 'Dale fought back and removed both of them to leave the visitors going into the last over needing one to win.

Amir Shazhad held his nerve and got the run off the third last ball to give Dunfermline 10 points and move them up to 10th spot in the 16-team division, with a home game against Aberdeenshire to come this Saturday.

Clydesdale 221, (R Hussain 86 not out, S Page 38, S Sharif two for 38, K McLaren two for 46); Knights 222 for 5, (S Smidt 80, S Shariff 74).

On Sunday, in the Scottish Cup, Dunfermline chose to take first lease on a warm sunny afternoon in Paisley and put the Ferguslie attack to the sword.

They raced along at more than six an over from the start but when Smidt and South African Wynand Schmitt came together the tempo increased.

They piled on 230 for the third wicket, which had the club's international scorer, Ken Nisbet, plying through his books to see if this was a record partnership and his early information was that it could well be.

Smidt completed his century in fast time and Schmitt was dismissed only two short of the three figures as a club record total of 383 was amassed in 50 overs.

Facing an impossible task Ferguslie tried hard to get a decent total but good bowling from Yasser Arfat and Cammy Farrell had them pegged back for spells.

To try to increase the tempo they took chances and lost wickets and were finally bundled out for 168 to give Dunfermline a win by 215 runs and a place in the last four.

Knights 383 for 4, (S Smidt 149 not out, W Schmitt 98, G Rai 43, K McLaren 30); Ferguslie 168, (G Preston-Jones 59, Y Arfat four for 32, C Farrell three for 39).

In the Fife Cup the Knights had a good win over old rivals Freuchie, at McKane Park, last midweek.

Amir Shazhad was the lynchpin of the batting, making an unbeaten 48 and the attack responded superbly to keep Freuchie well contained with them finishing 58 runs short.

Knights 163 for 8, (A Shazhad 48 not out, S Reddy 30, W Schmitt 28); Freuchie 105 for 2.

The Knights' second XI gave a disappointing performance against East League Division Four leaders Kirkbrae, at McKane Park, on Saturday.

Knights II 76; Kirkbrae 77 for 1.

Dunfermline Wanderers picked up a good win in East League Division Six on Saturday to maintain a top-half position.

Wanderers batted first but their strokes were handicapped by a very grassy outfield although Heriot's had a similar problem when they batted.

Wanderers 116, (S Harrower 35, R Cooper 18); Heriot's III 44, (Phil Westgarth four for 17, P Norman three for 12).

On Sunday a young Wanderers side met an equally youthful Dunfermline XI in a Forth Union match at McKane Park.

Knights XI 140 for 4, (A Leitch 33); Wanderers 141 for 1, (S Brenkel 45, S Lee 44 not out, R Orr 33 not out).
