DUNFERMLINE Knights enter the national cricket cup arena again this Sunday when they play in the semi-final of the Murgitroid Twenty20 competition in Glasgow.

The West Fifers will take on Clydesdale in the last four stage with the winners meeting the successful side in the Dumfries-Carlton semi which will also be played at Shawholm.

Knights will be hoping for better luck than they experienced in the Scottish Cup final a couple of weeks ago when they lost out to Uddingston.

Knights finished their Scottish Premiership campaign at the weekend on a mixed note when they beat West of Scotland but lost to Stoneywood Dyce.

The results meant that the McKane Parkers finished 11th in the 16-team league.

On Saturday stand-in skipper Cammy Farrell won the toss and asked West to bat in a game reduced to 40 overs due to a late start through wet weather.

Dunfermline bowled well and contained the Glasgow side to 156 and in the reply Knights, led by player coach Kevin McLaren, scored quickly and achieved their target in 28 overs.

West of Scotland 156 for 8, (A Umeed 68, S Reddy 2 for 18, K McLaren 2 for 21).

Knights 157 for 5, (K McLaren 48, S Reddy 31, S Sharif 20).

On Sunday Knights looked to be in the driving seat at the halfway stage against Stoneywood at McKane Park.

They dismissed the visitors for only 114 but in reply only Vasu Reddy got going.

However, his 55 was not enough to see his side over the line.

Stoneywoood Dyce 114, (J Stander 46 not out, Y Arfat 3 for 23, C Farrell 2 for 1).

Knights 100, (S Reddy 55, S Redhead 3 for 8, D Kidd 2 for 11).

All other fixtures involving local sides were victims of the wet weather.

Dalgety Bay have reversed their slide down the leagues of Scottish cricket by winning Division Nine of the East League.

The Bay lost only one game of a season shortened by bad weather, with only 10 games played from a possible 14.

Notable performances came from Murray Forbes (155) and Peter Newson (154) who both finished in the top 10 batsmen in the division; while Alan Pearson (19), Peter Newson (12), David Picksley (10) and Danny Green (10) all finished in the top 10 wicket-takers in the division and Bob Ball was one of only three bowlers to take five wickets in a match (5-25 vs Largo CC IV). The last two weekends' fixtures have been washed out but that has not dampened the spirits and the club is already looking forward to next season with plans to have regular indoor net sessions throughout the winter.

The Knights are starting a girls' section. The first session will be indoors at Duloch Leisure Centre tomorrow (Friday) from 6.30-7.30pm. Coaches will be Lindsay Ferguson, Charmaine Schlemmer and Holly Wilkinson.

The age group the club is targeting is from Primary 4 to S2. The first session is free and is part of Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council's 'Come and Try' week.
