THE summer downpours struck again on Saturday with no local sides completing East League fixtures.

Indeed, only one game got under way with Sign Plus Dunfermline Knights seeing some action at Largo.

The visitors won the toss and decided to field first on a wicket which was very damp but which played a lot better than it looked.

Still Dunfermline dropped catches and despite decent bowling from Chris Humphreys and Neil Service, who conceded only 40 runs in 11 overs, the Largo score ticked along pretty steadily.

Play was twice interrupted by heavy showers which continued to build up the moisture content in the ground and when another struck after 31 overs, with Largo on 147 for two, the match was abandoned.

On Sunday Dunfermline Wanderers were at Largo on President's Plate duty and this game enjoyed better weather conditions than the previous day.

Again conditions were not easy for the batsmen and Largo seconds struggled on being put into bat.

The Wanderers' attack kept a decent line and length and the home side batted cautiously taking more than 30 overs to pass 100.

Their final tally of 113 should have been a target Wanderers could chase and at 80 for two, off 20 overs, they looked in the box seat.

However, some bad shot selection and decent bowling suddenly saw wickets fall and the tail collapsed leaving the visitors 16 runs short.

Largo II II3 for 7 (Shandu 2 for 23, J Botha 2 for 23, Phil Westgarth 1 for 7).

Wanderers 97, (Pete Westgarth 21, S Brenkel 18).
