THE cricket season begins this weekend with a full programme of East League fixtures.

Dunfermline will again be in Division One and will entertain Edinburgh Accies at McKane Park on Saturday in an attractive opening fixture.

In Division Three Broomhall open their campaign with a match against Boroughmuir at Meggetland while Dunfermline Carnegie are in Division Five this season and will travel to Aboretum Road to play Holy Cross seconds.

Division Six will see Dunfermline seconds also in Edinburgh to take on Drummond Trinity seconds at Bangholm while in Division Seven Broomhall seconds entertain Tranent.

Dalgety Bay will be playing in Division Eight this season and they will travel to play Kirkbrae.

A mixture of Dunfermline first- and second-team players took on a Holy Cross XI in Edinburgh on Sunday in a pre-season friendly and won narrowly.

The 25-over-a-side fixture saw Dunfermline bat first and they attacked strongly throughout the innings with middle order bat Uzman hitting 38 in quick time.

Sean Hitz made a well-constructed 21 as the total rattled along at five an over-plus.

Holy Cross took on the challenge well and batted confidently but the Dunfermline bowlers kept their nerve and the innings ended five short. Hitz made it a good personal game for him with a three-wicket haul.

Dunfermline XI 133 for 8, (Uzman 38, S Hitz 21, B Porter 17, S Ghafour 3 for 32).

Holy Cross XI 128 for 4, (J Baites 30, S Hitz 3 for 13).
