THE wet weather returned on Saturday to hinder local East Cricket league sides' quest for points and the three games that finished saw defeats for the West Fife teams.

Dunfermline's problems in Division One continued at Musselburgh where they chose to bat on a sodden surface and were soon in trouble.

A solid contribution from Azeem kept them in with a chance of a workable total but when he was out for 42 the rest of the innings folded.

A total of 72 looked very vulnerable but the Dunfie attack stuck at their task and took regular wickets but the McKane Parkers were 30 runs short of a winning score and lost by four wickets.

Dunfermline (3) 70, M Azeem 42, H Verma 4 for 19, R Ullah 3 for 9.

Musselburgh (20) 74 for 6, A Tufail 25 not out, P Norman 3 for 37, M Azeem 2 for 29.

At Charlestown, Broomhall failed with the bat in Division Three against Murrayfield DAFS 2nds.

Murrayfield batted aggressively through Bob Sorrell who made a century and this kept the scoreboard ticking over despite some tidy bowling from Smith and Ward.

Gary Seath made a solid start for the 'Hall but the loss of Rorie Grant early hindered the home cause and steady bowling worked its way through the batting order.

Broomhall finished 107 runs short and the result hindered their challenge in the division.

Murrayfield DAFS 2nds (20) 209, R Sorrell 125, C Hoefling 3 for 40, D Smith 2 for 23, J Chalmers 2 for 39.

Broomhall (7) 120, G Seath 32, M Sunkari 5 for 23.

At McKane Park top of Division Six, Glenrothes seconds, were too strong for Dunfermline seconds.

The home side were struggling when they lost skipper Neil Westgarth early but his brother Peter took up the challenge and along with Martin Pearson, picked up runs steadily.

However, the remainder of the batting struggled to maintain the momentum and the innings folded on 109.

Glenrothes were far too streetwise for the hosts and former Dunniker stalwart Steve Rowley made an unbeaten 47 as the target was passed with only one wicket down.

Dunfermline 2nds (3) 109, M Pearson 40 not out, P Westgarth 32, I Irshad 3 for 20, R Hutchison 2 for 12.

Glenrothes 2nds (20) 111 for 1, S Rowley 47 not out, K Glen 42 not out.
