DUNFERMLINE KNIGHTS maintained their unbeaten record with a deserved win over Stoneywood-Dyce at McKane Park.
Heavy rain on Friday afternoon and evening meant that a colossal effort was required from the volunteer workforce to ensure that the wicket and surrounds were playable allowing the match to start at the appointed time.
Dunfermline Knights won the toss and put the opposition into bat. Wickets fell at regular intervals with only Elton Willemse, with 63 not out, defying the home attack.
After a 15-minute stoppage for rain the match was reduced to 48 overs per side. Yasar Arfat took four wickets while the spin duo of professional Alistair Gray and Azhar Sharif helped restrict Stoneywood to 179.
Dunfermline lost both openers early but Alistair Gray held firm. The home side were coasting to victory at 147 for 4 after 35 overs. However, in an effort to obtain the two bonus points on offer by winning the match in 39 overs Gray, Safyaan Sharif and Gowtham Rail all lost their wickets. Overseas amateur Marshall Bunting saw the Knights to victory with his 53 not out off 56 balls.
This weekend the Knights travel to Coatbridge to face Drumpelier.
Stoneywood-Dyce 170, (E Willemse 63 not out, Y Arfat 4-29, A Gray 2-38). Dunfermline Knights 178-7 (A Gray 53, M Bunting 53 not out) by Duckworth Lewis method.
