Nearest challengers Bo'ness - who beat them at Central Park on Saturday - lost at home to Newtongrange last night (Wednesday) meaning that Kelty will be crowned champions if they win their final two games, or if they beat Camelon on Saturday and Bo'ness fail to win at Musselburgh.

There was however disappointment for Rosyth as their hopes of promotion from the South Division were dashed on the final day against Dunbar United.

Kelty Hearts 0 Bo'ness United 2 KELTY HEARTS boss Thomas Courts insists his side still have their destiny in their own hands after Bo’ness blew the Super League title race wide open on Saturday.

Late goals from Nicky Walker and Will Snowdon gave the title-holders a vital win at Central Park to keep their hopes alive while heaping the pressure on leaders Hearts to win their final two matches.

Victory for Kelty would have all but sealed their maiden title flag but with Bo’ness nine points adrift with three games in hand prior to their encounter with Musselburgh last night (Wednesday), maximum points for both clubs in their remaining fixtures will see the Super League decided on goal difference.

Courts’ side are three goals better off and with Saturday’s final home match with Camelon and a trip to bottom side Lochee United ahead of them, he told Press Sport, “We now know that we probably have to take maximum points from our two remaining games but nothing changes from our point of view. If we both win our games it will come down to goal difference but we can’t control what happens elsewhere so we will go out with the same objective to win the games and try to score as many goals as we can.

“What will be will be but we’re feeling positive and I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying things just now. Bo’ness have got a tricky run of games as they’ve still got to play Linlithgow, Newtongrange and Hill of Beath, so the landscape could change quickly. With one home game and one against a team at the bottom of the league, Bo’ness would probably bite your hand off for that but Camelon will be dangerous opponents on Saturday.” There was little to choose between the teams in junior football’s match of the day and Courts felt his men shaded the first half before continuing in the ascendency after the break, with Mark Peat producing a good save from Paul Currie shortly before the visitors drew first blood 10 minutes from time.

Walker raced clear of the home defence and although goalkeeper Kyle Allison blocked his initial attempt, he netted the rebound for the opener and, minutes later, he was hauled back by Courts inside the area and Snowdon clinched the points from the penalty spot.

Courts added, “I’m probably the most hyper-critical when we get beat but on Saturday the guys gave everything. It was two teams going at it hammer and tongs and we just fell a wee bit short. Their attitude and commitment was excellent and they’re getting great experience of these mammoth games.” Oakley United 0 Dundonald Bluebell 0 OAKLEY UNITED inched closer to Premier League safety after picking up a valuable point against Dundonald Bluebell.

James Watt’s side responded well to their 4-3 defeat at Jeanfield Swifts in an entertaining encounter at Blairwood Park, hitting the woodwork no less than three times.

This was a good test for United against the promotion-chasers, who only had 12 fit players, but the hosts breathed a huge sigh of relief late on as Calum Young missed a great chance to win the game for Bluebell.

It represented just a fifth clean sheet of the season for Oakley, who have three matches remaining and are 11 points clear of second-bottom Dundee North End, who have an additional four games left to play.

Glenrothes are guaranteed to finish in the bottom two but with two sides being promoted from the south and north divisions, they still have work to do to retain their status for next season.

Rosyth 0 Dunbar United 3 ROSYTH boss Lee Richardson is targeting South Division promotion next season after their hopes of climbing to the Premier League ended at the final hurdle.

A 3-0 defeat at home to Dunbar United, combined with Falkirk’s 6-0 thrashing of Lochgelly Albert, meant that they missed out on second spot, as well as losing their unbeaten league record at Recreation Park.

Despite the disappointment, Richardson said that he “couldn’t be prouder” of his players for securing third spot in the table and told Press Sport that they would “really go for it” next year.

He said, “Realistically we’ve had a great season and I’m so proud of the boys because for a lot of them, this is their first season at this level. I’ve got everybody signed up for next season and if we can add maybe one or two experienced players to help them along, then we can hopefully push on and really go for it next season. Last season, I signed a player the night before the first game but this time I won’t be scrambling about like that for players.

“It was a poor end to the season in that game but the boys have worked their socks off.” Kick off was delayed by 30 minutes after the visitors were caught in traffic on the Forth Road Bridge and it seemed to have an adverse effect on the home team, who put in a performance that their manager described as “probably the worst of the season”.

Goals from Keith Tait and Chris Grant fired the visitors two goals clear by half-time but with the wind at their back, Rosyth came out fighting in the second period as visiting goalkeeper Connor Wood produced an inspired performance to keep them at bay.

A melee in the Dunbar goalmouth saw both sides reduced to 10 men as the hosts’ Greg Robertson and United’s Ross Colquhoun were sent packing and, minutes later, the hosts were awarded a penalty when Michael McMillan was brought down inside the box.

Top scorer Tam Hampson stepped up but saw his effort saved brilliantly by Wood before Tait added his second late on to wrap up all three points for the visitors.

Crossgates Primrose 1 Stoneyburn Juniors 4 CROSSGATES’ miserable South Division season was brought to an end with an all-too-familiar tale at Humbug Park on Saturday.

Despite Stoneyburn taking an early lead, McNeely’s men rallied and equalised before the interval but an own goal after the restart paved the way for the West Lothian side to pull away and add two more to seal a 4-1 win.

Crossgates finish the campaign rock bottom having conceded 90 goals, the second-worst defensive record in the whole of the east region behind the North Division’s Forfar Albion, who let in a staggering 129 in their 26 games.
