Fife and Lothians Cup second round: Dalkeith Th 0 Rosyth 2

LEE RICHARDSON hailed his makeshift Rosyth team after they produced a superb performance to knock out Premier League Dalkeith Thistle.

Prolific marksman Tam Hampson’s deadly double put the seal on an outstanding afternoon for the South Division side, who fielded five teenagers but still had too much for their higher-division opponents.

After a first half which Richardson felt Rosyth “commanded the game”, they had no goals to show for it and they almost paid the price during an explosive second half.

Thistle were awarded what Richardson felt was a soft penalty but they failed to take advantage, with the ball crashing off the bar, before the visitors went up the other end and won a spot-kick of their own when Hampson was brought down as he was poised to shoot.

Rosyth’s top scorer stepped up and although David Hay saved his effort, he fired home the opener a minute later into the bottom corner after they kept the pressure on the home goal.

With 15 minutes left, Hampson slotted home his 30th goal of an astonishing season to seal the tie.

A delighted Richardson told Press Sport: “We played really well and we had a depleted team; our left back Ryan O’Connor was unwell and Dean Ogg didn’t make it there until five minutes before kick-off, so we had five players 18 and under playing.

“Every one of them played well and it has given me a few headaches for Saturday!”

Fife and Lothians Cup second round: Kelty 2 Blackburn Utd 0

DAVID BANJO marked his Kelty Hearts debut with a goal as they saw off South Division Blackburn United to reach the third round.

The former Arbroath and Berwick Rangers midfielder, who along with former Cowdenbeath and Morton striker Archie Campbell joined the Jambos last week, netted the opener as Thomas Courts’ men continued their quest for glory in the Super League, Junior Cup and the Fife and Lothians Cup.

Blackburn, currently second in their division, set out to make life difficult for the Super League champions but with 20 minutes on the clock, Kelty made the all-important breakthrough when Banjo got on the end of Scott Gates’ cross to squeeze a shot home.

Although Blackburn started the second half in more positive fashion, Paul Currie’s header sealed the tie and provided Kelty with the perfect preparation for Saturday’s Junior Cup tie at league rivals Camelon.

Courts said: “Camelon are a solid Super League side and it will be a hard game but we will have a strong squad available, including all our new recruits.

“We will be going there with the target of making the quarter-finals, although we know we will have to be at our best .”

Premier League: Bathgate 3 Oakley Utd 1

FUMING Oakley United boss James Watt slammed “outrageous” refereeing decisions at Bathgate.

The visitors were leading 1-0 thanks to Reece Fraser’s first-half goal but after the hosts levelled early in the second period, Kevin Brown was judged to have committed a foul inside the area 10 minutes later that Watt said was “never a penalty” and saw United fall behind.

The Blairwood Park men were angered further when they were denied a spot kick of their own that Watt said was a “blatant” handball on the line before a third goal for Thistle settled it.

Defeat leaves the West Fifers second bottom and deep in Premier League relegation trouble.

A frustrated Watt said: “We went 1-0 up and then lost a poor goal early in the second half but the game changes with the penalty and the one that we didn’t get. I don’t want to blame referees – and he’s not the reason we lost the game – but I can’t fathom how he can give a decision like that to them but doesn’t give ours. It was a blatant handball and theirs was never a penalty ”
