Fauldhouse United 1 Kelty Hearts 3

THOMAS COURTS believes his Kelty Hearts side have proved they are one of the Super League’s best after making it five wins from five on Saturday.

The league leaders didn’t have it all their own way at Fauldhouse and had to come from behind to win. But by maintaining their 100 per cent start, the Jambos opened up a five-point gap over nearest challengers and rivals Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

The Central Park player-boss is refusing to get too carried away with his team’s stunning start but said: “For two full seasons now we’ve been up at the top end and I know what a competitive team looks like.

“We’ve got a squad capable of challenging again and I think I can safely say that we are one of the top teams in the East Region Super League.

“We’re trying to do all the right things and keep everyone fit but I still might need one, potentially two, players to come in so we have a squad capable of challenging on all fronts.

“Winning’s a great habit, competition for places is high and the players are certainly looking forward to each game.”

After defeating Jeanfield Swifts last Wednesday, Kelty fell behind at Fauldhouse when Devon Jacobs was unfortunate to divert a shot beyond goalkeeper Kyle Marley.

But they hit back before the break when Brian Ritchie swept home from a corner.

The table-toppers pressed home their superiority in the second half and took the lead when the Fauldhouse keeper was penalised for holding on to the ball for longer than the allotted six seconds, allowing Stephen Husband to touch a free kick to Craig Thomson, who fired home from the edge of the area.

The three points were secured when Neil McCabe turned his man inside the box to finish off a flowing passing move.

Oakley United 3 Crossgates Primrose 3

OAKLEY UNITED registered their first point of the season as they shared six goals in a derby thriller with Crossgates Primrose.

Craig Cowan’s side have endured a difficult start to life in the South Division, losing 4-1 and 8-1 to Rosyth and Blackburn United, and were denied a morale-boosting victory thanks to Stuart Donaldson’s last-gasp leveller for Primrose.

The visitors had enjoyed a 3-1 win at Stoneyburn last time out as Andy Brown’s team recorded a first triumph since their return to the junior scene but the Humbug Park boss felt they should have left with all three points after a rip-roaring contest at Blairwood Park.

Primrose started brightly and took the lead after just nine minutes through Stephen Stark but, despite a promising response from Oakley in the opening stages of the second period, Donaldson marked his debut by firing home Crossgates’ second in the 55th minute.

The points appeared to be heading east but Oakley had other ideas, with Graham Moore heading them back into contention before Conor Drury levelled with an angled shot from the corner of the box with 20 minutes left.

The hosts looked to have clinched a much-needed victory when Lee Centano put them ahead but, in the final minute, former Edinburgh City man Donaldson was on hand to score his second of the afternoon and earn Primrose a point.

Brown said: “We should have won but we’ve taken four out of six points away from home and we’d be happy with that all season.

“We’re working on trying to bring in another two who played with Stuart and I do need another goalie.

“On Saturday we’ve got eight guys missing but we’ll go with what we’ve got and we’ll be going out to win.”

Edinburgh United 3 Rosyth 2

ROSYTH’S unbeaten start to the South Division season came to an end after they threw away a two-goal lead at Edinburgh United.

The Recreation Park outfit have made a promising start under the stewardship of joint managers Kevin Smith and Barry Cockburn, romping to victory at Oakley on the opening day before being held to 3-3 draw with Craigroyston last time out.

Edinburgh, tipped by many to be one of the main promotion contenders, fell behind when Ciaran Chalmers headed the visitors into a 20th-minute lead at Paties Road from a well-worked set piece and midfielder Michael McMillan doubled their advantage just two minutes later.

Despite Shaun Martin pulling one back for the capital club on the half hour, Rosyth held the advantage at half-time.

But their lead was wiped out nine minutes after the break through Ryan Sclater.

With just seven minutes to go, Martin fired home a dramatic and controversial winner for the home side after it appeared Rosyth were denied a stonewall penalty for handball moments before.

Meanwhile, the first round draw for the Scottish Junior Cup has handed Crossgates a trip to Arbroath Vics.

The ties were picked out at Hampden last night and Primrose are the only West Fife side who will be in action, with Kelty, Oakley and Rosyth receiving byes into the second round.

The game will be played on Saturday September 24.
