CROSSGATES Primrose are confident that their Junior Cup tie with Beith will finally go ahead tomorrow after it was called off for a fourth time.

The Humbug Park outfit were left cursing the cold weather – as were Oakley United, Rosyth and Kelty Hearts – once more last Friday after both teams agreed to postpone the match with parts of the pitch still frozen.

Oakley’s home tie with Linlithgow Rose and Rosyth’s South Division match with Harthill Royal also fell victim to the weather, while Kelty Hearts’ East of Scotland League fixture at home to Stirling University was another game postponed.

Crossgates and Oakley will try again this weekend but Rosyth’s and Kelty’s matches will be rescheduled for a later date.

Both of West Fife's cup representatives know the reward that awaits them if they upset the odds after the fourth round draw was made yesterday.

If Crossgates get the better of 2016 winners Beith, a trip to Super League Jeanfield Swifts awaits on January 20.

A giant-killing by Oakley against four-time winners Linlithgow would earn a tie at Premier Division Blackburn United on the same date.

Meanwhile, despite the postponements last week, both Crossgates and Oakley managed to arrange friendly fixtures.

Alan Campbell’s Primrose crossed the Forth to play Heriot Watt University at Oriam and emerged 4-3 winners thanks to goals from Dale Allan, Greg Pearson, Ali McDonald and Jamie McNeish.

It was a different story, however, for Lee Richardson’s Oakley, who gained much-needed game time but were hammered 9-1 by unbeaten Premier League leaders Musselburgh Athletic at the Fleet Grounds.

It took only two players to do the damage for Musselburgh – who were 6-0 up at half-time – as Stephen McDonald claimed a double hat-trick and Matti King netted a treble.

Saturday’s fixtures (kick-offs 1.30pm): Scottish Junior Cup, third round – Crossgates Primrose v Beith Juniors, Oakley United v Linlithgow Rose.
