Oakley United 7 Stoneyburn 0

“OUTSTANDING” was how Richard Fox described in-form Oakley United’s display after they hit a magnificent seven on Saturday.

The new Blairwood Park boss was left purring after his rampant charges smashed Stoneyburn to continue their recent revival, which has brought three successive wins since he took charge.

In addition, they’ve yet to concede a goal under the stewardship of the former United centre back, while knocking in 12 of their own at the other end.

But the former Clyde youth coach insists his players will keep their feet on the ground as they bid to try to make a late – and what would be an unlikely – push towards the promotion places.

Oakley were 2-0 up at the interval but, after scoring a quick-fire third immediately after half-time, they had to wait until the final 10 minutes to add further gloss to the scoreline.

Tyron McLean and James McAteer bagged a brace each, while Ryan Stevenson, Willie Gardiner and Graeme Moore also got on the scoresheet, and Fox told Press Sport: “The boys were outstanding and everyone played their part, starting from the goalkeeper, who made a couple of saves early on.

“I was really pleased with the intensity, the effort and the commitment. When the subs came on, they not only kept the intensity up but added to it.

“The players are listening to the information that we’re giving them and taking it on board, which is really pleasing.”

He added: “Being an ex-defender, I don’t like conceding goals so that is just as pleasing. Our back five, including the goalkeeper, haven’t changed so that says it all.

“We just have to keep going. We’re up to sixth but still a wee bit off the promotion places, so nobody will get carried away.”

Crossgates Primrose 2 Livingston United 1

ALAN CAMPBELL saluted his 10-man Primrose side after they came from behind to rack up a third successive league victory.

Third-bottom Livingston shocked the Humbug high-flyers by taking the lead midway through the first half thanks to Kyle Miller but their advantage lasted just 60 seconds as Dale Allan struck back.

Primrose’s pressure eventually told 11 minutes after the break when Chris Hughes turned the contest around and, although Jamie McNeish was red-carded for an off-the-ball incident with 17 minutes to go, Crossgates held on.

Campbell said: “It was a good three points. I thought that we played well throughout and I’d say that we deserved the win.

“In terms of possession, territorial advantage and chances created, we were definitely the better side and the fact we had to come from a goal behind pleased me.

“At half-time we had to be patient. We probably missed four or five chances in the first half and, once we got the second goal, I thought we’d go on to win quite comfortably.

“After we had the man sent off, they threw everything at us in the last 15 minutes but we made a few changes and saw the game out.”

Crossgates are fourth, just six points behind second-top Edinburgh United, having played two games less, but Campbell said: “We’re round about where we want to be but we have to approach this week the same way.

“We’re buoyant and going in the right direction, but it’ll be a battle and we have to focus again on the task in hand.”

Edinburgh United 5 Rosyth 1

TAM HAMPSON reached a century of goals for Rosyth but was left disappointed after they succumbed to promotion-chasing Edinburgh United.

The prolific hitman, who won a move to Super League Hill of Beath Hawthorn at the start of last season after hitting the net 37 and 36 times respectively in the previous two seasons, has continued to be a regular source of goals since returning to the Rec last April.

Although reaching the 100-goal mark was a reason for personal cheer, three late goals condemned caretaker boss Ryan O’Connor to a second successive loss and keeps his team stuck firmly in mid-table.

Rosyth fell behind on the half-hour when Taylor Hendry put the hosts ahead. Hampson hit back for the visitors four minutes into the second half but a poor final 30 minutes means they have now won just one of their last seven games, losing the other six.

East of Scotland League: Kelty Hearts 9 Coldstream 0

KELTY HEARTS boss Thomas Courts believes his players made a “big statement” after their East of Scotland League Cup exit by demolishing helpless Coldstream.

The league leaders were left disappointed last Wednesday when an own goal saw them lose out to title rivals Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale in their cup semi-final in the capital but they responded by keeping up their perfect league record with a 17th success.

Stephen Husband’s long-range strike, which the visiting keeper could only palm into the bottom corner, opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Murray Carstairs’ close-range header from Conrad Courts’ centre made it two.

Stuart Cargill, the league’s top scorer and who penned a new long-term contract with the club last week, added number three a minute later by firing across the goalkeeper after good work by Scott-Taylor MacKenzie, before nodding in the fourth on the hour.

Garry Leighton added number five before Husband, with a pin-point curling free kick, netted his second and Kelty’s sixth.

Substitute Scott Dalziel tapped home Errol Douglas’ centre for goal number seven before two goals inside a minute late on gave him a treble and the hosts nine.

Courts commented afterwards: “It was a big statement after the narrow defeat on Wednesday.

“The boys deserved more in that game but got exactly what they deserved today.”

Saturday’s fixtures (kick-offs 2.30pm): McBookie.com South Division – Easthouses Lily v Oakley United, Harthill Royal v Crossgates Primrose, Rosyth v West Calder United. East of Scotland League – Kelty Hearts v Peebles Rovers.
