ROSYTH RECS believe they are right back in the championship hunt after putting their off-field problems behind them with their first competitive game in three months.

New manager Willie Syme and assistant Mark Tanner (right) took charge for the first time as the Rec travelled to Scone Thistle and recorded a comprehensive 3-0 win.

Dean Ogg, Mike Brown and Andy Wilson got the goals amid a performance that Tanner believes gives hope of a renewed title tilt.

"We are definitely still in the title hunt," stated Tanner, "Me and Willie are both winners and from the way the boys played on Saturday we will be there or thereabouts.

"From the doom and gloom that was getting written about the club a couple of weeks ago it is a far cry from that now.

"The game on Saturday was really positive and all the players played for each other and we dominated the game from start to finish."

Tanner paid tribute to new gaffer Syme, who helped reassure the squad that the club was back on track after they had been fearing for their futures.

"The players have obviously been unsure about what was going on with the manager leaving and then another two guys meant to be taking over," he explained.

"A lot of the players knew Willie Syme, as he was a coach here at the start of the season, and as soon as they found out he had come on board they couldn't wait to get back.

"Willie Syme, to me, has been the difference and I am quite happy to be here and learn from him."

Kelty Hearts rose to third in the league after edging an eight-goal thriller against Lochee United at Central Park and claiming their first ever Super League points against Ray McKinnon's men.

The Jambos managed to win despite playing almost the whole of the second half with only 10 men.

Winning 2-1 at half-time, Kelty's Stefan Winiarski saw red early in the second half. The two sides then began a game of tit for tat as a Lochee equaliser was answered by Clark Kay for Kelty and then cancelled out by a Lochee header.

As Lochee tried to press home their man advantage, Craig Morrison notched a double on the break to claim the points.

Crossgates completed a clean sweep for away sides in the Central League by netting a late winner at Newburgh.

Colin Paterson swept home a cross to notch the only goal of the game against the run of play, four minutes from the end.

Steelend Vics will try again this weekend to play their Fife and Lothians Cup second round tie at Penicuik Athletic after it fell victim to the weather.

Fixtures: East Super Bukta Teamwear.com League - Whitburn v Kelty Hearts. East of Scotland Cup second round - Oakley Utd v Bonnyrigg Rose. Fife and Lothians Cup Second Round - Penicuik Athletic v Steelend Vics. East Central Bukta Teamwear.com League - Crossgates Primrose v Rosyth.
