GORDON Shedden believes that his Honda Yuasa team are “heading in the right direction” after another impressive British Touring Car Championship meeting.

The third round of the event took place at Thruxton at the weekend and saw the Dalgety Bay race ace claim two podium finishes, including a sensational victory in race two with a late pass on leader Andrew Jordan.

Victory followed a second place finish in the opening race of the weekend and although Shedden could only secure a further 10 points by finishing sixth in race three, he is second in the championship with 133 points, just eight behind Jordan.

‘Flash’ has been delighted with the performance of his new Honda Civic Tourer so far and told Press Sport, “It was a really good weekend to get another couple of podiums, and another win which was awesome.

"We’ve been scoring heavily which has been making it better and even if you’re not on top form or winning a race, you have to keep scoring points.

"So far, so good. The Tourer was fantastic in races two and three and we are definitely going in the right direction.

"The early signs are good but it can quickly change around - one bad weekend and you can be quickly back in fifth place.

“It’s very tight at the top but we learn more every time we get in the car, so it’s onwards and upwards to Oulton Park now.” Last month at Donnington Park, the 35-year-old, who is Knockhill’s business development manager, created history by racing an estate car to victory for the first time in the BTCC. And the 2012 champion repeated the feat in Hampshire.

Attacking from the outset, Shedden had lost ground after running off the track at the Campbell/Cobb complex before working his way back into second place after passing Rob Callard.

Shedden and Jordan began to pull clear of the pack and after Jordan slid wide, Shedden made his move and held on for victory.

He continued, “The car felt good late on and when Andy got one little slide at Church I got a great slipstream and was able to get through.

"Because of the nature of the track at Thruxton, it has hard on the tyres and it was important for us to play it safe in race one and then allow us to be more aggressive in races two and three.

"The first two races were fantastic although the third one was a bit chaotic! But we’ll look to test the Tourer again before Oulton Park and see what improvements we can make again.” The fourth round of the championship at Oulton Park in Cheshire will take place on 7-8th June.
