THE Queen's Baton Relay will begin its tour of Fife tomorrow (Thursday) and will roar into action with a Superbike lap at Knockhill Racing Circuit.

The iconic motorsport venue has been chosen as the baton's first stop and uniquely will be carried on the back of a Superbike by Knockhill managing director Jillian Shedden.

The lap of honour will be a family affair as Jillian's dad Derek Butcher, the circuit's owner for 30 years, will ride the bike which will be escorted by four others from each of the four decades Knockhill has existed to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Jillian said, "We are honoured at Knockhill to be chosen as the first Fife venue for the visit of the Queen's baton and I am delighted to be chosen too, as I follow in a long line of people around the world who have held the baton. It is a special 40th anniversary year for Knockhill and this is a fitting event within a memorable year for us. We wish Glasgow and everyone competing at the Commonwealth Games the best of luck and thank the organisers for choosing Knockhill for the baton to do such an historic lap of the track." The lap of Knockhill will take place from 7.30am before it leaves at 7.50am, with Provost Jim Leishman and Shona Robison, Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, on hand to welcome the baton.

From Knockhill, the relay will move to Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay and Aberdour and details of the route across West Fife will be in tomorrow's Press.
