PETROLHEADS and racing fans are in for a treat this weekend, when an Aston Martin car that has never competed in Scotland will make its first racing appearance at Knockill.

Fife driver and businessman Phil Dryburgh is bringing his works Aston Martin V12 Vantage to the Scottish circuit to compete during the final round of the Scottish Championship Car Racing series on Sunday. The car, which normally competes in the prestigious British GT Championship, will enter the Saloons and Sports Car class at this weekend’s event, giving fans a rare opportunity to see a world-class sports car take to the track.

Phil, who has raced at some of the most famous circuits in the world, is excited about taking the car around his home track. “I’ve raced at Spa Franchorchamps, Brands Hatch GP and Donington Park GP this summer, but I am tremendously excited to experience Knockhill in the Aston, as I believe it will be a great challenge.” Although Phil admits the day is just for fun, he’s still hoping to have a shot at the current lap record of 49.979 seconds, which was set at the Porsche Carrera Cup race this year.

“I’m purely bringing the car along out of pleasure, but have to admit that it will be interesting to see how the car fairs around my home track,” he said. “I’m also considering running the car in FIA trim, without engine restrictions, that will take engine power to around 700bhp. Given the car’s pedigree and engineering I’m definitely looking to break that 49 second bracket.” The circuit will also play host to around another 50 supercars, with Ferrari, Porsche, Audi and Lotus sports cars all featuring in a parade at the end of season event. But for fans eager to get a closer look at the Aston Martin, Knockhill are offering one lucky winner the prize of a passenger ride with Phil by entering their Facebook competition.

The Scottish Championship Car Racing finale takes place on Sunday 5th October, with more information at facebook.com/knockhill
