Carnegie finish second at East District finals

AN amazing weekend of swimming at the East District finals in Glenrothes saw Carnegie Swimming Club claim second spot overall behind a very strong Warrender Club.
An outstanding performance by Eloise Barber saw her lift the Top Girl award in the 16 yrs and over age group, taking gold medals in all four of her 100m individual events on the day and setting a new Scottish record in the 100m fly.
Mark Szaranek took the Top Boy award in the 12/13 yrs age group with an incredible clean sweep of 13 gold medals in each of the East District individual events.
Eleven-year-old Aimee Adam claimed the Top Girl award in the 10/11 category taking a gold, silver and bronze on the day to add to previous excellent performances.
Carnegie"s boys dominated the 12/13 yrs age group winning every medal.
With all the golds going to Szaranek, Myles Hershaw took silver in the free and butterfly while Craig Bowman took silver in back and Kieran Watson won silver in breast. Blair Hershaw took bronze in free and breast and Lewis Kirby won the bronze in back and fly.
In the 14/15 girls" category, Ailsa Hershaw had an excellent day, taking silver in the freestyle and back and bronze in breast.
Blaine Small won the silver medal for fly.
Jack Szaranek won bronze in the 10/11 boys" freestyle while Fraser Reid, Sarah Chalmers, Jordan Lamb and Sally Christie all did well to achieve top six placings in this competitive meet.
Carnegie also excelled in the relays with the 12yrs and 13/14 yrs boys" teams as well as the 15/16yrs girls" team all taking two gold medals and two new East District age group records.
The boys" 10/11yrs team also took gold in both the freestyle and medley relays while the girls" 10/11yrs, 12yrs and 16 & over teams all won two silver medals with exciting finishes.
The girls" 13/14 team won bronze in the freestyle relay.
