CROSSGATES flyer and Top Newcomer from 2012 Greg Gilfillan is aiming to build on earlier success as he moves up a gear at Knockhill this weekend.

The Scottish Bike Championship roars into action for the start of the 2013 season with the Knockhill Motor Sports Club-organised race weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

A bumper entry has been boosted by an unprecedented number of new riders taking up the sport for the first time.

The action features races with the Scottish Superbikes, Superstock 600, Formula 125, Classics, Clubmans and more. All races are exclusively broadcast on Motors TV giving the riders exposure throughout the UK.

Racing starts at 1pm on Saturday and at 9am on Sunday with 15 races in store on the main race day on Sunday.

Greg, from Crossgates, first started racing road motorcycles in 2012. He competed in Mini Moto racing in 2003/2004 and had many podium finishes in the Scottish Championships then found an interest in Downhill Mountain bike racing.

He competed at national level in this and managed a second place at the National Championships one year.

It was in 2011 when Greg came back to motorbikes and completed a few track days and got his race licence ready to start racing in 2012.

He said, "My expectations were low for the first year but mi- way through the season I started challenging at the front and eventually started winning races."

Greg finished the top under-25-year-old in the Knockhill Championship and thus was given entries into the national Superstock 600 support races at the British Superbikes.

His main focus for the year is to learn all the circuits, to qualify and to keep improving. He also plans on racing in the Knockhill Club Championship all season and aims to win his first ever overall championship.

Adult admission on Saturday is 5 and 12 on Sunday when the first of 15 races starts at 9am. Concessions are 6, under-12s free with discounted advanced tickets available on www.knockhill.com.
