'FLASH' Gordon Shedden needs a heroic final day of racing if he's to retain his British Touring Cars Championship title at Brands Hatch.

The Dalgety Bay flyer is battling to stay on top of the podium and is still in contention despite trailing the leader by 35 points.

It's a tall order for Flash who's lying third in the standings with 343 points, behind Honda Yuasa Racing team-mate Matt Neal on 344 and Andrew Jordan on 378.

But Shedden gave his chances a shot in the arm with a brilliant win in race three at Silverstone at the weekend.

He had toiled to finish 11th in race one and endured a frustrating time to cross in 7th position in the next contest before it proved to be third time lucky.

From seventh on the grid he stormed through the field, making his way up to second before the safety car was deployed to allow removal of debris on the track.

On lap 14, after the restart, Flash passed Colin Turkington to secure a most welcome victory with team-mate Neal finishing in second.

Shedden said, "I'm not quite sure where that race three win came from - the guys have worked so hard all day and the car came alive.

"The Dunlop soft tyre made a big difference; I could brake a lot later on it. As long as he doesn't do anything daft, Andrew is in a really strong position.

"That said, this is touring car racing and anything can happen, I certainly didn't expect to win a race around Silverstone today so who knows what will happen at Brands.

"It's been a great day for the team, to get both cars on the podium at the end is a nice payback to the boys at Honda." It's the third year in a row Shedden has been in contention for the crown on the final day - five drivers can still win it - and he lifted the title for the first time in 2012.

There are 67 points still available at Brands Hatch on Sunday 13th October and if Jordan is to secure his maiden BTCC title he'll have to see off the attentions of four former champions - Neal, Shedden, Turkington and Jason Plato.
