THREE of West Fife's junior quartet enjoyed excellent wins in Saturday's league fixtures, but it was an afternoon to forget for Crossgates Primrose.

Penicuik Athletic 1 Kelty Hearts 4 KELTY Hearts' goal spree continued as they claimed an impressive win at Penicuik to stay top of the Super League table.

Thomas Courts' men are the only side with a 100 per cent record in the division and have now netted 11 goals in just three matches after Saturday's comprehensive display.

It's early days but the Central Park side's performances indicate they may be capable of a title challenge and after weathering early pressure, they clinically disposed of newly promoted Penicuik.

Stuart Cargill set them on their way with a well-placed effort and although a trialist levelled, Scott Lawrie volleyed home from Cargill's lay-off a minute later to restore Kelty's lead.

Hearts were dominant and on the stroke of half-time, they extended their advantage as Cargill controlled Roger Duffin's ball across goal to volley home.

Penicuik came back at Kelty after the break but solid defending kept them at bay. Victory was wrapped up as Cargill nodded Lawrie's cross into the path of Shaun Greig who swept the ball under the goalkeeper to score his first for the club and complete a fine afternoon's work for the league leaders.

Oakley United 2 Montrose Roselea 0 OAKLEY United got their Premier League season up-and-running with victory over Montrose Roselea at Blairwood Park (pictured).

Kevin Gollan and Alan McDonough were the scorers as they picked up their first points following defeats to Glenrothes and Edinburgh United, and boss James Watt was pleased with the result.

He said, "It was a disappointing week before. We've brought in a lot of new players and maybe they didn't realise the level of performance required at this level. I didn't think we deserved anything against Glenrothes and we were taught a lesson at Edinburgh United, so it was a rude awakening. But it happened, we have to keep going forward and it was a good result on Saturday. I thought we played ok, defended well and are looking a bit stronger.

"It's a bit of a monkey off the back but that's gone now. We enjoyed it but we turn our focus to Dalkeith on Saturday, which will be a tough match."

Watt, who has added Lochore Welfare's out-of-contract centre back Lee Reid and Lochgelly Albert striker Andy Watt to his squad, added, "There are budget restraints and we have to live within that, but we are always looking for players who can better the squad. But we will continue to give our best in every game and see where we are at Christmas, and if I feel I need to add players then I will look at that."

Rosyth 3 Whitburn Juniors 2 Rosyth boss Lee Richardson said he was "over the moon" with his players after they made it three wins from three against Whitburn in the South Division.

In a hard-fought contest, Tam Hampson was the home hero once more as his hat-trick proved enough to continue Rec's superb start to the season.

In a game Richardson described as one of "two halves" due to the wind, Whitburn dominated for much of the opening period and took the lead through a superb John Watson strike five minutes before the break.

Hampson levelled just two minutes later and despite taking control in the second half, Rosyth fell behind once more through Gary Brass. The visitors hit the post two minutes later before Hampson pounced on a loose ball to equalise with 10 minutes left.

The summer signing then clinched the points with his seventh goal in three games, and Richardson said, "It was a really good performance and it was a game that last season we would've lost. We defended really well and it was just a good, battling display. Whitburn are a good team and will be up there, but hopefully so will we.

"We've got a young squad and they're going to have a blip, but the enthusiasm they have is fantastic. They are showing no fear and all want the ball which is really positive for us."

Haddington 8 Crossgates 0 IT was an afternoon to forget for 10-man Primrose in East Lothian as they crashed to an eight-goal mauling by league leaders Haddington.

David McNeely's side are second bottom with one point from their first three matches and their confidence will have taken a blow as six second-half strikes inflicted a demoralising defeat.

Andrew Sinclair got the ball rolling for the home side after 11 minutes after he poked in from inside the area, and although Crossgates had some half chances of their own, they lost striker Jamie McNeill to injury before Wayne Beveridge saw red for two bookable offences.

Joe Murray latched on to a cut-back to double the lead on the stroke of half-time before Scott Wright made it three five minutes after the break. He then added his second just a minute later after latching on to a defence-splitting pass.

The floodgates opened for the visitors and a penalty award on 59 minutes allowed Matt Lynch the opportunity to make it 5-0. Sinclair grabbed his second with a well-taken volley before further goals from Murray and Chris Gray late on completed Primrose's misery.

Primrose assistant Kevin McArthur said, "We set up 4-5-1 and were containing them well, but the turning point was when Jamie was injured then Wayne was sent off. We felt the penalty was harsh but we were well beaten against a very good side. It was hard to take but we have to draw a line under it and have to win on Saturday, or we'll become detached at the bottom."
