Kelty Hearts 6 Lochee United 1 KELTY HEARTS were in seventh heaven on Saturday as they blew away Lochee United to maintain their 100 per cent winning start to the season.

Stuart Cargill was once more the star of another super show from Thomas Courts' side, hitting four goals to take his season's tally to an incredible 16 as Kelty extended their lead at the top of the Super League table to four points.

The Taysiders struggled to cope with the home team's movement in the opening period and after Cargill opened the scoring with a neat finish, he quickly grabbed a second as Kelty took full control.

Cargill then completed a first-half hat-trick before Craig O'Reilly was sent off just before the break for a late midfield challenge.

Any hopes Lochee had of mounting a comeback faded as the red-hot Cargill netted number four after the break and although Pat Martin pulled one back, Kelty added two more goals through Shaun Greig and Stephen Manson as Hearts continued their best-ever start to a Super League season.

Courts told Press Sport, "I was a bit surprised that we were 2-0 up after 10 minutes to be honest because the game was evenly balanced at that point.

"But you could tell when we scored we had our tails up and were looking to do more damage. Even when we went down to 10 men we scored another three goals which is great testament to the lads and their attitude.

"At the start of the season we knew that we had to make changes and you can see now we have high quality people and football players in the squad. They are thriving just now but we are just enjoying our football and riding the wave.

"They know that it doesn't matter who they are; if they're playing well then they'll be in the team. We've got great competition for places and there's a really positive feeling about the club just now."

Dundee North End 2 Oakley United 3 OAKLEY bounced back from their DJ Laing East of Scotland Cup thumping from Broughty Athletic to record their first away league win of the season at Dundee North End on Saturday.

James Watt's men were hit for six last time out but their latest Tayside tussle proved more fruitful as they ended the home side's unbeaten start to the season in a performance the United manager described as "tremendous".

Missing six players, the visitors took the lead after 30 minutes from a Lee Reid header before Dave Manderson doubled their advantage before half-time.

Graeme Dailly pulled a goal back just after the interval for North End but Andy Watt restored Oakley's two-goal lead almost immediately. A Scott McComskie strike set up a grandstand finish but Oakley held on for their third win of the season.

Watt told Press Sport, "The result was pleasing and I think that we deserved it. I think that we have probably played better but we kept trying to play football and, as we were missing six players, I thought the performance and workrate was tremendous.

"Character is a big thing and we got destroyed the week before which they would have had on their minds so to come together and produce a performance and result like that was really good.

"What is important is that we don't think that one result will make our season. We enjoyed Saturday but we will recover from that and look ahead to the next game this weekend.

"Steven Watt is still injured but the other five players who were missing will come back, which gives me a bit of a problem.

"But everything will be done on merit - if they are playing well, then they'll be in the team."

Crossgates Primrose 2 Livingston United 1 CROSSGATES showcased their battling qualities to come from behind and earn their first South Division win of the season against Livingston United at Humbug Park.

David McNeely's team went into the match in good heart following their 4-1 win over Kirriemuir Thistle in the East of Scotland Cup but an early goal put the West Lothian side into a lead that they held until half-time.

But the home side levelled just three minutes later through John Duffy and Stephen Stark grabbed the winner to move Primrose on to the five-point mark in 10th place.

Dunbar United 5 Rosyth 3 TWO second-half penalties saw Rosyth fall to their first league defeat of the season in an eight-goal thriller at Dunbar United that included another two spot-kicks.

Lee Richardson's team were looking to bounce back from their East of Scotland Cup exit to Stoneyburn by leapfrogging the home side into second in the table but spurned a great opportunity to take the lead on eight minutes when Dean Ogg saw a penalty saved after Kevin Goodwin had been brought down in the box.

They were left to rue that miss as Dunbar took the lead through Chris Grant after 15 minutes before the same player doubled the advantage just three minutes later.

Rosyth battled back and Goodwin pulled a goal back on his debut, only for Sam Young to restore Dunbar's two-goal cushion.

The first-half drama was far from over as Rosyth were awarded a second spot-kick for a foul on John McDairmid and Michael McMillan made no mistake.

The visitors levelled before the interval thanks to McDairmid's spectacular volley from the edge of the box.

But their joy was short-lived as the home side were awarded a penalty on 56 minutes for handball on the line by McMillan, who was given a red card. Young stepped up to score his second of the afternoon and although Sean Johnstone struck the Dunbar crossbar, Young completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes with another penalty after a foul by Rosyth keeper Steven Milne.

Richardson told Press Sport, "I said to them at the end of the game that I couldn't get on to them because we played some good football but you don't go away from home, score three goals and not get anything.

"We've been playing really well and defensively we've been great but in the first half, mistakes killed us. It was one of those days where their goalkeeper made a great save from Dean Ogg's penalty, we've hit the bar and the post and I don't think Mikey McMillan should've been sent off because his hand was by his side.

"If you'd said to me that we'd have had just one defeat up until now I'd have bitten your hand off."

Richardson hopes to have Goodwin available for Saturday's derby with Crossgates after being substituted with a calf problem but Tam Hampson has three matches left of a four-game ban to serve following his red card at West Calder last month.
