Fauldhouse 0 Kelty Hearts 0 KELTY HEARTS were knocked off top spot in the Super League after they were held to a frustrating goalless draw at Fauldhouse.

In a league campaign that yielded no fewer than 29 goals in their opening eight games, Hearts will be disappointed not to have found the net after creating a number of chances in West Lothian.

The visitors had the ball in the net inside the opening two minutes but it was ruled out for offside to dampen any celebrations.

Although the lowly visitors worked hard to try and restrict the opportunities afforded to Thomas Courts' side, it was one-way traffic for most of the afternoon with red-hot Stuart Cargill and Craig O'Reilly testing the reflexes of the home goalkeeper.

Man of the match Sean O'Neill tried to create openings for Kelty throughout but a dogged Fauldhouse rearguard kept them at bay.

By contrast, Hearts keeper Kyle Allison was rarely called into action but they failed to make the breakthrough and drew their first blank of the season.

Newtongrange Star's win over Musselburgh saw them take top spot by a point having played a game more, while Kelty's focus turns to Saturday's Junior Cup tie at Forfar West End.

Kinnoull 0 Oakley United 2 OAKLEY boss James Watt praised his team's "comfortable" performance in seeing off Premier League bottom dogs Kinnoull on Saturday.

In a scrappy match, Derek Murray fired the visitors in front in the 28th minute by pouncing on the rebound after an Andy Watt effort hit the post before Dale Allan's low drive early in the second half wrapped up the points.

Oakley's fourth league success of the season saw them move up to ninth in the table and while hailing his squad for the progress they have made, Watt singled out goalkeeper David Manderson as a "vital" member of his team.

Watt said, "It was a solid win and the tables had turned a wee bit because in every game we'd been the underdogs.

"It was up to us as to how we reacted to being favourites but we did what we set out to do. We have played better and lost and will play worse and win, but I am happy with the three points as anybody can take points from anybody in this league.

"We're trying to go about our business as quietly as possible but we have proved that we can compete. We're looking forward to Saturday even though Alan McDonough is still missing as is our goalkeeper David Manderson. That is a big blow because he has been outstanding for us and we believe we are getting the best out of him.

"For me he's the best goalkeeper in the league and we know that we can rely on him.

"But we are not going to get ahead of ourselves and will take each game as it comes. But I am content with where we are just now and that is testament to just how hard the boys are working."

Harthill Royal 1 Rosyth 7 LEE RICHARDSON is relishing the chance to take on Junior Cup holders Hurlford United this weekend after watching Rosyth hit top spot in the South Division.

Rec produced a highly professional display to reach seventh heaven at Harthill and provide the perfect warm-up for Saturday's second round tie against the Ayrshire giants.

Tam Hampson's double inside the opening 15 minutes set Rosyth on their way before strikes from Gregg Robertson and Sean Johnstone put them four goals to the good by half-time.

Scott Morrison made it five before Johnstone grabbed his second, and although Kyle Fox netted a consolation for the hosts, Kevin Goodwin wrapped up the visitors' fourth successive league win that takes them to the summit ahead of Haddington Athletic on goal difference.

Rosyth will be huge underdogs to progress against Hurlford but boss Richardson told Press Sport, "Everyone will be expecting Hurlford to come up and beat us, but it's a one-off game so who knows.

"We had one of our coaches down to watch them and they are good but we'll go in without any fear. I just hope that they play as they have been and don't freeze but one thing the boys do have is legs. They'll run all day and Hurlford won't get a minute. We're really looking forward to it and hopefully the locals will come out and there'll be a good crowd.

"I was really happy with our performance on Saturday; everyone was switched on and it was very professional. At half-time we should've been eight up because we had a lot of chances but there are goals coming from everywhere. It's a long time since we've said that Rosyth are top of the league so I'm delighted."

Crossgates Primrose 0 Whitburn Juniors 2 PRIMROSE slipped to their third successive league defeat after doing down to Whitburn Juniors at Humbug Park.

There was to be no repeat of the drama that saw their previous home match with Stoneyburn Juniors abandoned due to a brawl on the pitch but they were unable to prevent a strong visiting side from collecting maximum points.

The windy conditions played a huge role in David McNeely's men falling behind in the eighth minute when Jason Walton's in-swinging corner was curled beyond the home goalkeeper and into the net by the conditions.

Whitburn settled into their stride and despite some stout defending from Crossgates, they doubled their advantage in 32 minutes when Martin Russell's driven shot ended a good move.

The home side refused to throw in the towel but despite their best efforts, they found goal chances at a premium with encouraging moves breaking down with loose passing. Whitburn never looked likely to add to their tally and comfortably held out to keep Primrose third bottom of the division.
