Kelty Hearts 2 Hill of Beath Hawthorn 1 THOMAS COURTS hailed Saturday’s last gasp win over derby rivals Hill of Beath Hawthorn as one of the best moments of his fledgling managerial career.

After falling behind to a Darrin Wright penalty in the first half, Sean Grady hauled Kelty level before Brian Ritchie’s late goal sparked wild celebrations with their lead at the Super League summit increased to 18 points.

Hearts have four matches left, including a potentially decisive clash with third placed Bo’ness, while the West Lothian side and second placed Newtongrange Star have played six games fewer. Courts admitted to Press Sport that he was “euphoric” and said, “We had to work really hard which is typical in a derby game because Hill of Beath tried to counteract how we played.

“Once they got in front it was an uphill battle but the manner in which we won was really good and is testament to the players. Given the context of the game and everything around it, it’s is one the top moments that I’ve had since taking the job.

“I’ve always said that to take six points from Musselburgh, Hill of Beath and Linlithgow will put you in a strong position and that’s where we are with four games left. We’ll be idle for a couple of weeks and Bo’ness will have to play three games first, so we need to sit tight and see what happens.” Courts felt his side were unfortunate to be a goal down after Kyle Allison raced from his line and upended Lewis McKenzie inside the area to allow Wright to slot the Haws in front, but Kelty roared back with a dominant second half display.

Grady, back in the side after injury, equalised after the visitors failed to clear a Conrad Courts delivery and as the game entered its final stages, Thomas Courts’ cross was finished off by Ritchie to seal a hugely important three points.

Courts added, “I felt being 1-0 down at half-time was unjust because we were clearly the better team and created plenty of chances.

“My message to the players was to keep believing in what you’re doing, you’ll get an equaliser and then we’ll get there. There’s a steely determination about us just now and that togetherness shines through - although I didn’t expect us to score in the last minute!

“Our squad has been tested recently with Scott Dalziel on the bench after having the flu, Shaun Greig failed a fitness test and Craig O’Reilly had a bad injury last week. Gary Leighton came back in with a man of the match performance and Sean Grady got us back into it, so it shows the strength we have.” Kelty meanwhile have completed the signing of former Dunfermline, Inverness and Ross County defender Mark McCulloch until the end of the season.

Oakley United 2 Broughty Athletic 2 OAKLEY UNITED boss James Watt was disappointed to drop two points on Saturday but praised his players for producing a much improved performance.

The home side appeared to be coasting to victory against the promotion chasing Taysiders when Jordan Tapping fired them in front after 25 minutes before Craig Paterson doubled the advantage shortly after half-time.

But in what Watt described as a “crazy five minutes”, Bryan Duell levelled from the penalty spot before Paul McLellan netted the equaliser that means Oakley still have work to do in order to maintain their Premier League status.

But he was happier than after their previous outing, where they lost 4-0 to Forfar West End, and he said, “I was disappointed that we only ended up with a point after how the game panned out, but over the piece a draw was probably a fair result.

“It was a crazy five minutes where we conceded two goals and before that they didn’t seem like they were going to score. Their penalty looked like one from where I was standing but we should’ve composed ourselves after the restart, but instead we were at sixes and sevens.

“I would probably have taken a point before the game but it feels like two dropped. It was at least a better performance than at Forfar where we let the club down and was the first time I felt almost embarassed. But it was a better performance which was pleasing and we need to take each game as it comes and try to gain enough points to make sure we stay in the division.

“We’ve got six or seven battles left and everything is still in our own hands.” Oakley have signed former Rosyth and Ballingry Rovers midfielder Scott McCrindle until the end of the season, while Lee Reid will miss the rest of the season after being handed a 10 match ban after knocking a yellow card out of the referee’s hand after being sent off during February’s 2-2 draw at Arniston Rangers.

Rosyth 7 Stoneyburn Juniors 0 ROSYTH boss Lee Richardson says his underdogs will continue to put pressure on promotion favourites Whitburn and Falkirk after hammering Stoneyburn on Saturday.

The Recreation Park side hit seven for the third time in the South Division this season to take their tally for the season to an impressive 73 while maintaining their unbeaten home record.

Paddy Murphy set the ball rolling after five minutes when he broke up play in midfield and played in John McDairmid and although the striker’s effort was saved, Murphy netted the rebound.

Left back Kieran Bakhsh then saw red for bringing McDairmid down in the box and Tam Hampson made no mistake from the spot while McDairmid added his name to the scoresheet with the third before the interval.

The procession continued and two more for Hampson ensured he took home the match ball while McDairmid and Sean Johnstone completed a fine afternoon’s work for Rosyth.

They remain third in the table, having played two games less than Whitburn in second but two more than Falkirk in fourth, and Richardson said, “We’re underdogs though you never know, goal difference could come into it and ours is a great record.

“We will keep putting the pressure on Whitburn and Falkirk and will see what happens, but what I would like to see is us finish the season unbeaten at home as that would be a great achievement.

“This season we were looking to finish in the top six so I will be happy if we do that, but it would be great if we could make that extra step.

“If we don’t then we’ll push for it next season but we played really well on Saturday and I’ve seen an increase in crowds which is great to see.” West Calder 3 Crossgates Primrose 1 DAVID MCNEELY has conceded that this season is a write-off for Crossgates as they fell to another defeat on Saturday.

Primrose look destined to finish the campaign bottom of the pile having accumulated just seven points from 23 games.

And they were the architects of their own downfall at West Calder by conceding two penalties.

It has been a turbulent season on and off the pitch at Humbug Park and with just three games left, McNeely said, “We have to write this season off, give it another year and see if we can get boys in that we can rely on. I’ll be looking to try and bring a couple of experienced boys in but I need players who have the mentality to stick it out when things are tough.

“I can’t complain about the referee on Saturday as they were two stonewall penalties, and we were back to our old selves in making mistakes.

“We’re not getting the breaks and it doesn’t get any easier this week against Rosyth, who are a very good team. We’ll go in and try to make it as hard as we can for them.” After falling two goals behind with penalties in the first half, Primrose conceded a goal within five minutes of the second before Dale Burt was red carded with 20 minutes left.

Russell Smart did pull a goal back but there was no way back for Crossgates.
