DUNFERMLINE Water Polo Club have added more silverware following the under-16s British Cup win at the end of April.

The club"s under-21s defeated favourites Warrender in the delayed 2007 Scottish Cup final 13-8 at the Edinburgh University pool.

Fielding eight of the British Cup-winning side and with Alasdair Campbell having returned from university in the USA, Dunfermline had an exciting mix of youth and experience for the final against the favourites.

Christopher Campbell struck first early in the first quarter with a well taken breakaway goal before Warrender equalised.

Dunfermline then scored three goals in quick succession from Darren and Alasdair Campbell and a second from Christopher Campbell, with a well-taken lob, took Dunfermline into a 4-1 lead.

Warrender pulled a goal back before further goals from Darren and Alasdair Campbell, again on the break, took Dunfermline into a 6-2 lead at the end of an excellent first period where Dunfermline"s strong counter-attacking play and drop-off defence was proving to be very successful.

Going into the second quarter with a four-goal lead, coach Brian Campbell started to rotate his players to keep the team fresh for the remainder of what was expected to be a physical game.

Two further goals from Christopher Campbell and a long shot from captain Paul Metcalfe were cancelled out by two goals from Warrender to give Dunfermline a deserved 8-4 lead at half-time.

Warrender tried to come back into the match in the third quarter but Dunfermline maintained the gap with two goals each from Zach Thomson and Alasdair Campbell cancelling out four goals from Warrender to leave Dunfermline still with a comfortable four-goal cushion at 12-8.

An early strike from Darren Campbell in the final quarter following a long break signalled the introduction of all of the younger players to replace the starting line-out, who were given a well-earned rest.

The performance of the club"s younger players during the final quarter was superb with no further goals being scored following great defensive play from all of them.

Some of the younger players now go forward with confidence to play Warrender in the under-14 Scottish Cup final next week.

Scorers: Alasdair Campbell (5), Christopher Campbell (3), Darren Campbell and Zach Thomson (2) and Paul Metcalfe (1).

Dunfermline: Simon Metcalfe, Paul Metcalfe, Alasdair Campbell, Robert Tate, Andrew Woodall, Darren Campbell, Christopher Campbell, Zach Thomson, Jordan Wood, Andrew Melville, Craig Wilkinson, Joe Thomson and Jake Hinley.
