A DUNFERMLINE family need their own special trophy cabinet after celebrating a unique cup double thanks to their two football star daughters.
The Weir family cracked open the champagne when sisters Caroline (14) and Kirsten (16), playing for Hibs Girls U/15 and U/17 respectively, won two separate Scottish Cup medals on the same day.
Caroline, an attacking midfielder, scored a hat-trick as her side crushed Motherwell 6-0 at Toryglen in Glasgow to claim her fourth Scottish Cup.
Later that afternoon defensive midfielder Kirsten took to the same field and helped her side beat Rangers 3-1 and ensure the family medal collection was bulging at the seams.
Kirsten said, 'To win the cup on the same day as my sister was special for us both.'
The football-daft pair, of Perdieus Mount, honed their skills on a special astroturf pitch with goals, created in their back garden by dad Lindsay.
Their love of football began at an early age, with Caroline playing for Elgin Star boys team at the age of five. For three years in a row she was top scorer, once notching 70 goals in a season.
Kirsten was also an early starter, playing for Dunfermline Ladies U/12s when she was eight, before moving to Elgin Star 93s, for whom she was captain.
The pair also helped Dunfermline High School win the girls U/14 Scottish Schools" Coca-cola Soccer Sevens tournament.
With Caroline as captain, Kirsten helped coach the side and her practice sessions paid off with a hat-trick for her sister in the final while the team never conceded a single goal in the tournament.
Caroline said, 'We came runner-up last year and won it this year. We get to go to Villarreal for a week where we will get trained by their youth coaches, watch one of the Spanish games and watch the first team train. I can"t wait.'
Caroline has also won international honours, she was selected for the Scottish Schools U/15 girls team and won two caps for the SFA U/15 girls side.
The girls, Pars season ticket holders, have no doubt what they want to do in the future.Caroline said, 'I would like to go to America, play professionally and play for Scotland.'
Kirsten chimed, 'I would prefer to go to Germany as they have full time leagues out there too but I hope to play for Scotland too.'
