TWO West Fife bowlers contested the men's open final at the Fife Indoor Championships for those with a learning disability.

For more than 20 years the event held at the East Fife Indoor Bowling Club in Aberhill has proved one of the most popular events organised by Disability Sport Fife (DSF).

Darryl Stewart from Dunfermline defeated Gary Handyside from West Fife Community Support Services (CSS) in a close fought final, eventually triumphing by 9 shots to 5. Darryl's win confirmed that he is the in-form player of 2012.

Gary had produced an excellent performance during the preliminary stages to defeat the leading Fife bowler with the outstanding record in disability bowls, Craig Donaldson from Kinghorn.

Darryl and Gary also reached the semi-final stages of the Scottish Lawn Bowls Championships at the Westburn Park in Aberdeen but unfortunately were unable to play their final ties because the event was rained off.

In the men's B competition Dunfermline's Jimmy Binnie was defeated by Robert McMahon from St Clair Centre by 9 shots to 4. The men's C competition was an all West Fife CSS affair when Stuart Melville defeated Fergus Wilson in the final by 8 shots to 5.

In the women's B competition the outstanding player this year was Hayley Binnie from West Fife CSS who had a convincing win over her team-mate Christine Bannister.
