KIERAN STEER, from Crossgates, is the Disability Sport Fife Wheelchair Athlete of the Year and winner of the Ian McNab Memorial Trophy.

This past year has been memorable for the ex-Beath High and now Fife College student. Being selected for the GB boccia squad preparing for Rio in 2016 was a major achievement in itself but it is success in major competitions that he has confirmed his maturity and readiness to take on the leading boccia players in the world.

European pairs medals in Portugal in 2013 were followed at the end of the year by junior gold in Brazil. a first Scottish singles title in 2014 led to success in Canada wearing GB colours. The challenges have been many and varied but the young Fife player improves with every competition.

Kieran is coached by GB coach Claire Morrison, from Dalgety Bay, and under her watch he has made great progress and reaped the rewards in major championships all over the world.

Since the first day Kieran appeared at a Disability Sport Fife junior multi-sports festival, he has been determined to achieve all that he can in whatever sport he turned to.

It was a thrill for Kieran recently to receive his award from Winter Paralympian Aileen Neilson, skip to the GB wheelchair curling bronze-medal team in Sochi, and Winter Paralympic medalist from Torino, Michael McCreadie.
