FOUR members of Dunfermline's Destination Judo Club competed for Fife at the 14th Twin Town Olympiad held in Bergama, Turkey, in late June and returned home with two medals apiece.

The quartet were selected after competitive trials held in Kirkcaldy in February, along with eight other judoka from other districts of the county, and travelled to Turkey along with Provost Jim Leishman and competitors from nine other sports at the seven-nation event, at which the Fife team topped the medal table.

The Olympiad has taken place since 1978 and brings together young athletes from Scotland, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Holland and this year's hosts, Turkey.

In the individual competition, Emma Forrest (under-16 girls' under-40 kilos) and Fiona Todman (under-16 girls' under-44 kilos) won their respective categories with a series of dominant victories to continue their recent run of impressive results.

Ryan Turnbull (under-16 boys' under-60 kilos) also struck gold, adding to his bronze medal won at the Venray International tournament in Holland the previous weekend.

The fourth member of the squad, British champion Kirsty Marsh (under-16 girls' under-52 kilos) won bronze despite fighting in the category above her own weight class.

The following day saw the hotly-contested teams competition, with both boys' and girls' teams gaining bronze medals with the West Fifers again all on winning form. All four fighters will still be eligible to compete at the next triennial Olympiad to be held at Böblingen, Germany, in 2017, where they hope to renew friendships made with fellow competitors from across Europe at Bergama.
