DUNFERMLINE Carnegie Ladies players Bernadette Harris and Sheila Duncan represented Scotland in the Masters Home Nations Competition in Swansea.

Harris qualified for the over-55s team and it was her first Home Nations competition as well as a first for the 55s team.

Lack of experience playing together showed with the team losing 1-0 to Wales in a game they could have won. Against a very good England side they found themselves overwhelmed and lost 11-0 and while they did a lot better against the England 60s side, they still went down 3-0.

Harris said, "Swansea was a fantastic venue for the home internationals and although the Welsh narrowly beat us a draw would have been a better reflection of the game.

The English teams beat us comfortably, however, and it was obvious that they were teams who play regularly together. Our time in Swansea was a great experience which I look forward to repeating next season." Duncan was playing in her sixth Home Nations and for the 50s this year. The team played well in drawing 2-2 with Wales but lost narrowly 1-0 to England and 2-1 to Ireland.

She said, "We had a very useful team on paper and I was a bit disappointed with the results as I think we deserved to achieve more.

"It was, again, a fabulous experience to represent Scotland and I was delighted to receive the Irish pennant for playing well.

"Hopefully we will train more for next year as it would be nice to bring the cup north of the border again."
