A DALGETY BAY gymnastics group wowed Commonwealth Games crowds at the weekend - during the netball!

Gymtasia Evolution, part of Acrobay Gymnastics Club, were invited to perform during breaks in the action during the Games. They made their debut on Saturday at the SECC, performing during the netball half-time breaks, and were met with rapturous applause form the 3000-strong audience. TV viewers also saw their performance on the BBC.

The team, based in Dalgety Bay, is made up of some of Acrobay's top competitive gymnasts and coaches and includes members of the Scotland squad, Scottish and British champions and medalists among its numbers.

Head coach Suzanne Fraser said, "It's a huge honour to have been asked to perform at the Commonwealth Games; we're all really excited about it. Acrobatic gymnastics is a relatively new discipline and isn't yet a Commonwealth sport, so it's a great opportunity to showcase it to a wider audience and show people what it's all about. The team had a fantastic time performing and judging by the response they got, the crowd seemed to love them. We can't wait to do it all again next week."

Gymtasia Evolution also performed during the weightlifting and badminton today (Thursday), squash and table tennis today (Friday), powerlifting tomorrow (Saturday) and badminton and squash on Sunday.
