CHARITIES across West Fife were handed a par-fect boost to the tune of £14,700 on Monday thanks to the efforts of Dunfermline Golf Club.

The club's 27th annual celeb-am golf day at Pitfirrane took place in May to raise funds for a number of charities and worthwhile causes and the large sum took the amount of cash raised and distributed over the past 27 years to more than £250,000.

Among the celebrities playing for the David Houston Trophy - which was won by the team from B M Developments - were Pars legends Scott Thomson and John Sweeney, former Scotland boss and Hearts director of football Craig Levein, former Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper Stewart Kennedy and BBC sports reporter Alison Walker.

Among those to receive funing from the event were CHAS, Woodmill High and Cairneyhill Primary schools' additional support departments, Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre, Maggie's Centres, Fife Hospitals' Kidney Support Group, DEBRA, Macmillan Cancer Support, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, Queen Margaret Hospital hospice, Multiple Sclerosis in Lothian, Helping Hands, Dunfermline Street Pastors, the SEAL Association in Dunfermline and Motor Neurone Society Scotland.
