CHARLESTOWN cyclist Joe Nally continued his excellent recent form by clinching victory in the under-16 boys Scottish Cycling National Youth Time Trial Championships recently.
The 15-year-old Woodmill High School pupil, who won his fourth successive Scottish Youth Road Race title in August at under-16 level before competing in his first UK Schools Games at the beginning of last month, competed in the event at Newton Mearns for the first time at under-16 after winning last year's under-14 race and took top spot with a time of 23:37.
The event took place on a 10-mile course in windy conditions which tested the riders' ability to pace themselves as well as show off their out and out speed over the distance. Nally was among a field of 56 under-14 and under-16 competitors competing for eight titles split equally between individual and team events.
In the School Games, Nally placed 12th in the scratch race, eighth in the points race, 18th in the 2000m pursuit, fifth in the 20k madison and fifth in the team pursuit race, where Scotland missed out on a bronze medal ride by just 0.7 seconds.
