ALPHA Data Carnegie Hockey Club have an outstanding chance of being involved in the battle to make the top division of the Scottish Indoor League.

Division Two has now been split into two groups of four with each team in the mini unit set to play three games and the top two sides qualifying for the promotion play-offs.

Carnegie travelled to Dundee University at the weekend for games against Uddingston and Harris and carrying forward the six points they had won in the first phase of the competition against these clubs and fourth team Falkirk.

Up first was Uddingston, who Carnegie had played the previous week, drawing 4-4. The game was fast-paced with plenty of chances at either end but it was Uddingston who opened the scoring after some good movement from their forwards.

Carnegie responded though Robert Gillespie but the game was a lot tougher for the West Fifers this time due to the hall being smaller, which suited Uddie.

The Lanarkshire side were up 3-1 at half-time and eventually ran out out 6-3 winners in what was only the second defeat this season for Carnegie.

Up next was Harris, who had already beaten Falkirk to put the pressure on Carnegie.

It started well for the Dunfermline side, going up by two goals and holding it for the next 10 minutes, but a disastrous three-minute period allowed Harris to score three quick goals to lead at half-time.

Some choice words at the break by captain Andy Doyle seemed to help the Carnegie boys who came out fast and again scored two quick goals to restore their lead. However, Harris again hit back and some slack defending allowed another two goals leaving Carnegie trailing 5-4 with not long left on the clock.

Harris switched off to allow Doyle to score from a tight angle to level it up at 5-5, with seconds remaining.

That equaliser means if Harris cannot beat Uddingston next Saturday, Carnegie will be in the final play-off spot before they play their final group game against Falkirk.

Skipper Doyle told Press Sport, “The tight hall did not help us against Uddingston but we were slack against Harris at times and it means we will be focusing on picking up the win against the Bairns no matter what Harris do this weekend.”
