DUNFERMLINE Boxing Club duo Jimmy Ramsden and Callum Susans packed a punch to enjoy success at Boxing Scotland’s Scottish Championship last weekend.

Ramsden (16), of Inverkeithing, won his youth 1998 69kg semi-final against Kamil Vescicik of Team Shire while Susans reached the 69kg senior welterweight semi-final after beating Highland BA’s Michael George, both with unanimous decisions.

They will return to the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Centre in Motherwell next month where Ramsden will take on Craigmiller Boxing Club’s Martin Lawrence on Sunday 8th March, while Susans will step into the ring with Arbroath fighter Mark Fairweather a day earlier.

Coach Tommy Cannon, who also runs the Canmore Street club, said, “Over the three rounds Jimmy boxed really well and was attacking the boy with straight punches. He was trying his heart out but Jimmy has done three rounds of three minutes before and is a very fit boy. I took him on a 16 mile run last week and he left me standing! I haven’t seen his opponent but he beat the boy that Jimmy beat in the Novice Championships.

“Callum has only boxed twice in two years but he is moving really well and is on the way back. He was catching him with a number of left and right hooks and although he’s getting back to the standard that I want him to be at, he’s not quite there yet. I’ve got three weeks to get them both fighting even better and I’ve told them that as long as they are in the competition I can get you there. But the two of them are buzzing just now.” Ramsden will be looking to win his fourth title in just four months after winning the 70kg junior boy category at the Boxing Scotland Novice Championships in November and the 1998 youth 69kg Eastern District and Intermediate Championship titles.
