The Carnegie Ladies’ firsts beat Borders Fjordhus Reivers Ladies’ seconds 4-2 in their final game of the season to go up.

Carnegie took the lead with a brilliant goal from Chloe Parker, who dispatched her shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. Shirley Coyle stretched their lead and Parker added a second to make the interval score 3-0.

However, Borders came fighting back in the second half and Dunfermline survived several penalty corners before Coyle grabbed her brace to make it 4-0.

Borders never gave up and scored two late goals but couldn’t wreck Carnegie’s promotion party.

Ladies club captain Gail Hunter told Press Sport, “Dunfermline Carnegie Ladies ended the season on a high with this performance and promotion to the East District Premier Division. “This has been a great season for us under new coach Mabe Neish and the rewards are clear to see. “The achievement is even more impressive by the girls as they achieved this with a lot of senior players out injured and or working shifts, meaning that our youngsters had to step up to the mark, which they have done.” She added, “Here’s looking forward to next season, Mabe Neish is staying on as coach and the new astroturf is being relayed at Woodmill High School, so we will finally have a pitch back in Dunfermline which will hopefully attract new players to the fold. The future is certainly looking bright for the club.” The Ladies’ second team had two games at the weekend needing points to stay in East League Division 2.

On Saturday, they travelled to Berwick to face opponents FIDRA and the home side, with some excellent stick work, were soon 3-0 ahead. By the break, FIDRA were four up but in the second period Carnegie improved and they shutout their opponents, although they could not get on the scoresheet themselves.

On Sunday, the side faced Stirling Wanderers seconds at Forthbank and took the lead after Rachel Robson converted Brigette McNeish’s lovely through ball.

Carnegie spurned five second-half penalty corners but were able to hold for a win which cements their place in the division.

There were notably good performances from a number of players, however, Fiona McPhie had a fantastic game in defence and made so many great tackles she was voted MVP.
