The Crossgates lad was competing at the European Continental Cup in Sant Cugat, the first international of the season, in the build up to the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016.

Steer upset the current singles rankings in the BC4 class by progressing through his section undefeated and lifting the gold medal.

He then teamed up with Stephen McGuire and Evie Edwards to win silver in the pairs event, losing narrowly to Slovakia in a tie break.

Team GB topped the medals table – there were four Scots in the 10-strong side – and Steer’s performances were his best results to date in an international ranking tournament.

The Disability Sport Fife member will have increased confidence for the season ahead and next up is the World Open in Poland in June.

The focus will then be on the European team and pairs competition in Guildford in July where a strong performance should secure direct GB qualification for Brazil.

Steer will play a key role in each of these competitions in his attempt to become the first Fife high performance boccia player to be selected for a Paralympic Games.
