The school’s netball coach and principal teacher of PE, Jacqueline Moore, said that “hard work” was the key to the success of their S1, S3 and senior teams during a trophy-laden year that saw them continue to dominate in Fife.

In the S1 Fife Cup competition – where Levi Wilson was voted as player of the tournament – the final was contested for the first time by two teams from the same school as Woodmill’s A team got the better of their B team, while the S3 A side also secured victory in the competition.

They followed that up by winning the Fife League and for the third successive year, they appeared in the final of the Scottish Plate against Glasgow’s Firhill High School and came out on top to repeat their success of last year.

The S3 B team also enjoyed success as they won the Challenger Cup at the EuroDisney International Netball Tournament in Paris, beating Downe House School, from Berkshire, 9-8 in the final, while the senior A team won the Fife League undefeated and got the better of Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon’s College in the Scottish Schools Cup bronze section.

Ms Moore commented, “The girls have been excellent and for the S1 A and B teams to play each other in the final was unprecedented for the Fife Championships.

“They were both delighted with that and for the third years to reach the final in the Scottish Plate for the third time and win it two years in a row shows great consistency.

“I was really pleased that the senior team managed to beat Robert Gordon because it’s difficult to go up against a private school and to attend the netball tour in Paris for the first time and come away with winning something is fantastic.

“They’re a great group to work with and they are no different to girls in other schools but they work very hard and come in during their lunch to practise.

“Success breeds success and that ethos of working hard and trying to emulate other pupils is a big part of it.”
