FIFE Southern romped to an 87-7 victory against a depleted Arbroath at Harley Street on Saturday.

From the start Southern showed great pace and passing.

Daz Philps was fleet of foot in the first minute to start off a try bonanza. Nigel Jones pitched in with another two, in the first quarter – a steal for his first and final recipient of some excellent passing for the latter.

Other Southern touchdowns before the break came from Neil MacDonald, Stuart Stevenson, David Harvey and Philps again.

Stevenson enjoyed pinpoint accuracy with the boot, converting all seven tries for a 49-7 interval lead.

The Fife line was finally breached for the first time in 370 minutes, from a kick ahead with the defence too far upfield.

The Sharks attack resumed immediately with Stuart Doidge the first to cross the gain line, Jones then completed his hat-trick, with Ally Marshall, Pete Campbell, Stevenson and Craig Paterson all pitching in to complete the 13-try haul.

Stevenson converted another four kicks to give the home side an 87-7 win.

Caledonian league one side Crieff have home advantage in the second round of the SHE National Cup competition, to be played on Saturday.
