DUNFERMLINE made it five wins out of five and moved up to second with a hard-fought away victory at Garnock on Saturday.
More injury problems resulted in number 8 Sky Laurie moving to centre and Dunfermline started the match with a gameplan based around their strong-looking pack.
This appeared to be working as the scrum took early control of proceedings and gave the visitors good early field position but they were let down by another poor lineout game and some slack kicking from the back three.
Ally O"Connor gave Dunfermline the lead with an easy three-point penalty but Garnock responded well with a spell of pressure that resulted in the home stand off missing two easy kicks at goal before scoring eventually with his third.
From the restart, Dunfermline surged into the home half and superb forward play saw Johnny Bruton dive over for the crucial score with O"Connor converting from wide out.
Again Garnock responded with a period of pressure and again left with three points which was to close out the half.
A scoreless second half saw Dunfermline continue to defend brilliantly and, despite some great attacks, were unable to find the score which would have put the result beyond doubt.
Garnock were the only team in the first half of the season to score more than two tries against them so there was some satisfaction at the final whistle.
This weekend sees them at home to bottom club Livingston (kick-off 2pm) and they must be looking to improve their attacking as tougher opposition are lurking in the weeks ahead.
