ABERDOUR celebrated a double success at the National Shinty Awards after scooping South Division Two coach and player of the year.

South Division Two is home to Aberdour's second team and club founder Lisa Norman was voted coach of the year while Doug Newsom (pictured) received the player award.

Delighted Lisa said, "It was a bit of a shock. I think some sneaky people in our club put us up for it then people were able to vote online but we weren't even aware.

"I got a phone call last week to say I'd been nominated then before I knew it I heard I'd won.

"It's a great achievement for the club in its first year." It was a welcome boost after the first team went down 5-1 at the hands of Oban Celtic in South Division One last Saturday.

Short of a number of first-team players Aberdour included some second string members for the trip.

They started slowly, losing two goals in the first 20 minutes, but soon fought their way back into the game.

Lisa said, "We dominated the remainder of the first half and start of the second half.

"Just after half-time we could have been up 4-2 if it hadn't been for their keeper.

"We had more good shots on target than we have done all season. He had a few triple and double saves which were just exceptional.

"We dominated so much of the game and it reached a point in the last 15 minutes that we were left thinking what else can we do?

"They caught us on the break a couple of times and it is annoying when you are creating good chances but it was just one of those games." Aberdour's consolation strike came from 15-year-old Angus Thorburn. He was one of six players from the club selected to attend a national development camp for some of the country's top prospects aged between 14-17.

Conor Mcpherson, Cameron McCue, Brandon Marshall, Jack Kelly and Finlay Williamson were also nominated by the club to receive specialist training in hitting, dribbling and tackling.
