ABERDOUR Shinty Club are in dreamland after reaching their first ever senior cup final.

After a nerve-wracking 120 minutes the Silver Sands club defeated Col Glen on penalties in the semi-final of the Bullough Cup.

Col Glen had forced added time after nicking an equaliser five minutes from the end of 90 minutes to salvage a last-gasp draw.

However, Aberdour held their nerve in the penalty shoot-out to book their pace in the final of a tournament which is played for by reserve teams from the south of Scotland.

Player manager Scott Grant said, "The whole team played well and I think it was a deserved result although there were moments where we maybe didn't play as well as we did in the last round." Craig Grant had put Aberdour ahead after only nine minutes and the home team held their lead for 76 minutes until Col Glen equalised.

Scott admitted, "It had been coming for a while to be fair. We weren't creating enough attacking chances and weren't holding the ball up well enough.

"Our defence was under a lot of pressure and probably for about 20 minutes we could see a goal coming." The ensuing penalty shoot-out went to sudden death and Craig Grant notched the winning goal at the third time of asking.

Club founder Lisa Norman said, "This is our first senior final ever and is a huge achievement for the club.

"We didn't think 2011 could get any better with the 10th anniversary and putting out more senior teams so it's a great cap to such a good year." The final will take place on 3rd September against Lochside Rovers.

Lisa added, "We're the underdogs and have been all the way through.

"Our ethos was to develop players in the league by giving boys a run and build the strength of the squad.

"In the cup we've gone with a winning team with a breadth of ability and experience on the park and it's definitely paid off." Aberdour's under-14s will compete in the quarter-final of the McMaster cup against Oban Camanachd under-14s this Sunday.
