SCOTTISH 400 metres hurdles champion Eilidh Child was crowned Dunfermline & West Fife"s sports personality of the year last night (Wednesday).
The Pitreavie athlete lifted the award for the first time after a year which saw her claim six championship titles and represent Great Britain in the under-23 European Championships in Hungary.
Child, who is third on the Scottish all-time list for the 400m hurdles after finishing fifth in a PB of 57.11 seconds in Hungary, was named sports personality of the year at Dunfermline & West Fife Sports Council"s annual ceremony at the Glen Pavilion in Dunfermline.
Fencer Natasha Thomson, Watson Place, Dunfermline, was named young sports personality of the year after becoming British foil champion at under-14, under-16 and under-17 level in 2007.
The Spartans gymnastic display team were over-16 team of the year after winning the British Championships in Liverpool in November, while Aberdour Shinty Club"s under-12s was junior team of the year.
Paralympian swimmer Andrew Lindsay won the award for athletes with a disability while InCAS swimming coach Garrie Roberts was named coach of the year.
Open water swimmer Andrea Gellan won the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust Centenary Masters award for outstanding male or female athlete over 35 while Rona Gerrard, Kinnis Court, Dunfermline, was presented with the Services to Sport award for her work with Dunfermline Fencing Club and the Riding for the Disabled group.
