The club's under-12s with the Kelvin Hall trophy

ABERDOUR Shinty Club"s under-14 and under-17 sides have rounded off an excellent month for the club by completing a clean sweep of the Central Scotland Winter Leagues.

Sunday saw the last round of the leagues, which are played on astro grass and give players games once a month on an all weather surface during shinty"s winter shut down.

Both sides won their respective leagues out right after 15 games over a competitive winter season.

It was the last youth game for many of the club"s older under-17s and they will now move into senior shinty in South Division 2 when the season starts at the end of March.

In addition, the club enjoyed further success as the under-12s will take on the top shinty teams from across Scotland in April after winning a regional qualifier.

Aberdour won the recent Kelvinhall event, which is a qualifier for the national first shinty finals to be held at the Bells Sports Centre, Perth on 20th April.

The victory follows their recent Central Scotland Winter Indoor League title and is the second successive year in which an Aberdour team has won this event.

The strong Aberdour squad cruised through their qualifiers, winning all but one of their games to top the group and face Milngavie & Bearsden in the semi-final.

They had a shock in the last four, going two goals down, but they recovered to draw 2-2 to take it into extra time and went on to win 4-2.

In the final Aberdour raced into a three-goal lead against Glasgow Gaelic School but the west coast side pulled two back.

Aberdour grabbed the critical fourth goal and managed to dig in and hold on for a 4-3 victory after Glasgow had pulled another goal back.

The club is still recruiting fresh talent and have a senior sign-up and training session this Saturday in Aberdour from 11am-1pm at the Hawkcraig shinty pitch.
