ABERDOUR Shinty Club"s senior team booked their place in the second round of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup with a 3-0 victory over London Camanchd at Silversands on Saturday.

Aberdour started the match strongly and the breakthrough came in the 38th minute when Joe Dunton cracked the ball home from the edge of the D.

This settled Aberdour"s nerves and was followed four minutes later by the best move of the game.

Aberdour"s left half Fraser Mathisen won the ball deep in his own half and passed it up the wing to Calum Shaw, who took a touch and released it to Dunton. His early ball into the centre was met perfectly by Doug Newsom, who drove it high into the net, giving Aberdour a 2-0 half-time lead.

The second half had barely started when a red card for dissent reduced Aberdour to 11 players. Aberdour dug deep to contain London, with Andy Mathie impressive at centre and Ross Nicol covering every blade of grass on the pitch.

With London failing to exploit the extra space, the visitors didn"t create as many chances as they might have, and Aberdour"s keeper Seb Mercer was able to deal with anything on target.

For much of the second half, Aberdour looked the most likely to score and London"s keeper was the busier of the two, making four or five good stops to keep his side in the tie.

His luck ran out right at the end when Newsom added a third goal with almost the last touch of the game.

Aberdour"s reward is a second round home tie with North Division 3 team Glenurquhart. Aberdour are back on league duty with a home game against Glenorchy this Saturday at 2.30pm at Silversands.
