HOT on the heels of Rachel O'Donnell's selection to take part in the Scottish Commonwealth Games swimming events, Carnegie Swimming Club's Craig Bowman swam his way into a place on the British junior team.

He will travel to Eindhoven, Netherlands, in July to take part in the European Junior Championships.

His selection follows an outstanding few weeks of swimming after he was crowned Scottish national champion at Tollcross pool, Glasgow, at the beginning of April.

However, the British team selectors needed him to repeat his time at the British national championships, which took place at the same venue the following week. Bowman qualified for the senior final in the 100 metres butterfly with a time of 53.98, which was fast enough to gain him his first British junior cap. He also competed in junior finals at the British nations in the 50m butterfly where he finished third, the 200m butterfly where he finished fifth and in the 100m backstroke where he was placed fourth.

Head coach John Szaranek said, "It is really pleasing to see Craig's selection for the European Junior Championships - it is the second year running when one of the club's swimmers has been chosen to represent Team GB.

"Craig started his swimming career with Carnegie more than 10 years ago.

"His success demonstrates that we have the ability to produce top-class swimmers in Fife and all those who have worked with him in the club take great pride in his achievement."
