DUNFERMLINE'S Alison Tate has been selected for Great Britain under-17s as part of a squad of 13 water polo players heading to Germany for a European tournament taking place in mid-August.

She will be joined by Hannah Edwards from Menzieshill and Neal Rayner, Scotland women's national coach, said, "This is the first time Scottish Swimming has placed two female athletes in a Great Britain tournament squad in memory.

"Between them, Hannah and Alison have 14 senior Scotland caps and this is the first time they will represent Great Britain at an international tournament.

"Alison played well in the Commonwealths for Scotland and she is now one of the most experienced under-17 Great Britain players and will hopefully use this to her advantage in Germany." Club coach Paul Metcalfe was equally delighted and said, "This is just reward for all the effort Alison puts in at training with the club, Scotland and GB.

"Combined with her swimming training with Dunfermline Amateurs SC, it shows the clubs are capable of helping players to compete for team places at ever higher levels in the sport."
