CARNEGIE Swimming Club’s Craig Bowman continued his good form in the pool by claiming a new Scottish Age Group record in the 100m butterfly.

The 18-year-old represented Great Britain for the first time at the European Junior Championships in Dodrecht, Netherlands, last month and competed in four individual butterfly events.

His strongest performance came in his favoured 100m race where, after comfortably progressing through the heats and semi-final, he agonisingly missed out on a bronze medal to Russia’s Vladislav Kozlov by 0.2 seconds. However, his time of 54.04s was good enough to set a new national record.

In the 50m, he was pipped to a semi-final place in a ‘swim-off’ by Israel’s Kirill Baron, recording a time of 24.93s, while he finished 10th in the prelim for the 200m race.
